[CQ] Print defects every few pages

    Hi guys,

I've got a Canon IR ADV DX C5760 which is printing these gray random marks in the exact same place every so often. Maybe every 10th page or so. Sometimes it happens one page after another, seems like when printing double sided. It's been happening for about a week. It's always this grayish color.

It just so happens the users of this machine print labels on this copier sometimes, and the labels are on the top 5" of the page, in line with where this print defect is.

I'm thinking maybe it is some sticky stuff on the ITB?

I'd appreciate any input on this.

It looks like it is dropping waste toner.

Remove the ITB cleaning unit & vacuum it out if that resolves the issue fit a new one.

If you measure the pitch between 2 repeating marks, most probably it will coincide with the black drum pitch.since the customer use to make print labels, there could be some glue stuck on the black drum.Inspect, clean or replace the black drum.

The defect is an exact duplicate of itself every time it repeats. I believe that random droppings of toner would not do such an exactly-repeating pattern.

The repeating pattern of defects does not occur more than once per page. It occurred once in a test print of six pages, which is the photo I posted. Then on the next six-page test it occurred on two of the pages.

If it were the drum, I believe it would happen two or three times per 8 1/2" page.

Am I correct to think it might be something stick on the belt (ITB)?

I may have forgotten to mention the direction of paper travel, it is left to right in the zoomed in image. The paper is loaded LTR, long edge first. The marks are all in a row across the direction of paper travel.

It looks to me like the drops are random.

                yes,your thinking is right.
if the exact duplicate repeats itself once every 6 A4 pages,it is not the drum but the int transfer belt.Like i said before, most probably there is some glue from the print labels that the customer used to print.
