    Oce Plotwave 500 - Error Code 22550 and 22551

Howdy! I have a Plotwave 500 that has been mostly a great workhorse for us, but has recently started having an unusual array of issues. Our tech is not having any luck finding a solution, so I am hoping someone else has seen this!

We are getting error codes 22550 and 22551 (sometimes one, sometimes the other). The printer then asks for a restart. Sometimes the restart helps for a little bit (maybe 10 D size sheets), sometimes not. We originally placed a service call because, in addition to the error codes, the prints coming off seemed SUPER staticky, as in they were actually hovering off of each other on the catch tray, and if you touched the printer you would get a little static shock. Additionally, sometimes the prints would come off unfused just before the error, or randomly in the middle of a print job some of the sheets would be completely unfused.

Our tech has wiped and reinstalled the OS, replaced the entire internal computer/server, replaced the charge control unit, and yesterday replaced the drum. I am not sure exactly what else he has done, but he's been out at least 5 times now. Initially regardless of what we were telling him, he was determined that it was a startup error, which I think led to some of the parts replacements that occurred. I am not convinced this is a startup issue, since it is actually mostly throwing the error during printing, and also during scanning jobs.

There is developer in the paper drawer on the right hand side as well, although that may be a red herring as that's been going on for years and our tech has never been able to stop it.

Anyone have any ideas to help this very stressed printshop owner (a.k.a. me)? Thank you for any ideas!!

The thing that raises a eyebrow is the static issue. The static charge should be dissipated to the earth ground. I would have the earth checked in your power line. Static charges can do a lot of messing up on the controller boards and programming.

If all else fails read the Service Manual!

If that fails, meet me at the pub and we will discuss it.

Really appreciate your comment! I will suggest this to the tech as well. Do you think it's possible that just from day to day use a ground wire has become partially disconnected? We haven't moved the printer or changed the power supply in the room in any way.

Anything is possible. It's the static build up that concerns me. You should never get shocks, static or otherwise, from a machine. Keep in mind the toner is transferred via charge attraction from the developer to the drum surface. The charge is like static. Also check the power source , specifically the ground , it could have been disturbed some ware else in the electrical system of the building..

You said Recently you have been having this problem. Has there been any electrical work any ware near by?

Thanks! I wish someone knew what the error code was for!

We have not had any work done. Nothing has been done nearby. The machine has not moved or been altered in any way.

            22550 SSM System Initialisation timeout

            Symptom

            Description

Not all software modules have started within the maximum startup time.
            NOTE

Never replace/reinstall PowerM and Spider Core 22PBA03 simultaneously.

            Initialisation / startup timeout.

Position of USB data cable between PowerM controller ( 20PBA01 ) and Distributed IO Central (DIOC) ( 22PBA01 )

Check / Reconnect / Replace the USB data cable.

See : Check the position of the USB data cables between controller 20PBA01 and DIOC 22PBA01 Power State Manager (PSM) ( 22PBA08 )

Check if the Power State Manager (PSM) ( 22PBA08 ) is powered ON.

Check the function of the Power State Manager (PSM) ( 22PBA08 ). +5V_SWF

            GUID-6A0001F0-8309-4D46-8DA1-FF21D227C7FD-low[1].png
Check the +5V_SWF signal for a shorts or open connections.
22551 SSM Unexpected unit connection lost

            Symptom

            SSM Unexpected unit connection lost.
            NOTE

Never replace/reinstall PowerM and Spider Core 22PBA03 simultaneously.

One of the units unexpectedly lost its connection to the SystemStateManager.

Switch the system OFF and ON.

Error occurs when trying to retrieve the datalog (as explained in How to get datalog and trace data files). - you retrieve thios log by SAM key in SDS or In a Web Browser on a workstation, enter : http://<System_name>/OceService

Repeat the following procedure 8 times (to fully clean the datalog snapshots from the special characters):
            • start SDS session with the SAM key
            • select “Leave Service Mode | End of service visit”
So errors is timout during bootup and none of consumables (drum, developer, charge etc has nothing to do here -they even don't tested by machine control for this errors or in 90% system reinstall doesn't help

Check the position of the USB data cables between controller 20PBA01 and DIOC 22PBA01

            Symptom

            Description

Make sure that the position of the marked cables match the mark on the connectors.

and maybe Spider Core board PN: 1060121976 (often gets broken -contains settings and printer firmware)

Developer inside machine is diferent and not regarding these error problem. It could be wrong toner concentration setting, badly developing unit (from time to time bearings stuck with developer -i personally replace only bearings not whole unit as official), something wrong with HV voltages, etc.
