    [Error Code] Canon ImageRunner c250if - e009-0002

    Hi!

Happy I found this forum... This is my first post, so please be gentle :-)

I just got a Canon ImageRunner c250if printer.
It seems to be working fine, but whenever it exits sleep mode, I get this error e0009-0002.

The service menu titles this error as "Fixing disengagement timeout error", and the description states:
"Signal of the Fixing Pressure Release Sensor could not be detected at pressure release operation of the Fixing Pressure Release Cam,
and the operation was not completed within 4 sec from the start of counterclockwise rotation of the Fixing Motor".

The suggested resolutions span from checking harnesses to replacing the Fixing Assembly / Fixing Drive Assembly / Fixing Drive / Interlock Assembly and more.

Since this only occurs when exiting sleep mode, I thought this might be a firmware issue.
I upgraded to the latest FW, but the problem persists.

A new fixing assembly is quite expensive, so I was wondering if anyone has encountered this problem
and managed to fix it without getting a new assembly.

Sorry for being so lengthy, and thanks in advance for any hint!

    Re: Canon ImageRunner c250if - e009-0002

    The E009-0002
refers to the Fixing Disengagement timeout error. The signal of the
Fixing Pressure Release Sensor could not be detected at Pressure Release
Operation of the Fixing Pressure Release Cam and the operation was not
completed within 4 seconds from the start of counterclockwise rotation
of the Fixing Motor. The Service Manual specifies issues with the Fixing
Assembly, the drawer connector harness, DC Controller PCB, etc. If the E009-0002
is predominantly noticed when the machine has been at idle for a
substantial period, then most likely the problem is from the Fixing
    Drive Assembly (FM0-0071-000).
Check your Fuser Drive. The Two White Gears Are Most Likely Free Wheeling In Both Directions. There Should Be Some Tension One Way Or The Other. If It Works On Reboot , try Opening The Side And Front Doors. If It Has To Do With The Fuser Drive, When You Open the Doors, The Machine Will Try To Release The Pressure On The Fixing. If your Drive Isn't Working Correctly , it Should Error Out.

        Re: Canon ImageRunner c250if - e009-0002

Thank you very much for your answer, bobburnsreb !

I did as you suggested, and indeed, opening and closing the side/front doors make this problem appear !

I took out the fuser unit, and the gears seem to have the tension that you described.

I searched the service manual for the Fixing Drive Assembly (and found it), but the manual does not show how to
get to it. It's only shown in section 2 ("Technical explanation").

        My followup questions:
        1. Do you happen to know where I can find instructions on how to replace this unit?
        2. When I checked the fuser unit, I saw that the film looks somewhat "worn out" near its edge (se attached picture),
as if it's going to get torn soon. Could this be the reason for the problem? Is there a reason to replace it?
Is there a way to replace the film itself, and not the entire fuser unit?

        Thank you so much,

        - Barak

Since the fuser is quite expensive, I was hoping the problem is with a different component :-)

BTW - is there a place where I can get a new fuser for cheap? I don't mind getting an OEM one (as long as it's good...).

          Thanks again,

You could replace the fuser sleeve but I would simply replace the fuser unit they are not that expensive on this small model.

                    Hi,

So I got a new fuser from NWRS.... but the problem persists.
Whenever the printer comes back from sleep mode, and whenever I open and close the doors.

Which leads me to bobburnsreb 's post:
I took the fuser unit and checked the geers in the fuser drive (on the printer, not on the fuser itself),
and they both move freely in both direction. No tension whatsoever.

Does this mean that the problem is with the fuser driver("printer side"), and not the fuser assembly?
Does anybody have, by any chance, instructions for replacing this unit? I have the service manual,
but I couldn't find how to do this (there is a very detailed chapter about the fixing mechanism, and how it works -
but not how to replace the driver)

                    Thank you so much!

                      Quick update:
I found the instructions for replacing the Fixing Drive Unit.
It's on page 4-14-, and titled (unsurprisingly) - Removing the Fixing Drive Unit.

I ordered the driver and will report results.

                      Thanks again !

                          Hi everybody,

Thank you so much for your continuous help with this issue... I have some progress to report...

So the fuser assembly driver arrived Friday. The problem was definitely with it, because the new one has some tension when
I rotate the gears, while the old one not.

So I followed the service manual and replaced the driver, but I probably damaged one (or more) of the cables/harnesses
on the low voltage DC board, since now when I start the machine up, I get an E004 error - fan stuck.

The fan works just fine, so my guess the "fan stuck" signal was damaged when I disconnected the cables.

I'll post a new thread about it.

Thank you very much for your great help on this issue!

                              Hi!

Writing here just to wrap things up.

The printer is now working, and the problem is solved !

the original diagnosis of bobburnsreb was flawless - he nailed it on the first strike :-)
I first tried the other suggestion (replacing the fixing assembly) simply because it didn't require disassembling,
but it turned out to not be the problem.

So I ended up replacing the fuser driver, and it now works great !
[I did manage to damage a pin on a connector on the DC board, but fixed it too]

Thank you all very very much, especially you - bobburnsreb.
