Print Offset even after Factory Reset [IR4570]

    canon_support1.jpg

I'm reviving a canon IR4570 that has been lying idle for almost a year. Complete overhauled the developer, drum and fixing unit, cleaned the rubber rollers, motor PART-CHK all running OK, but when printing A4 or A4R, there's always about 50mm offset at the beginning of the print. The REGIST offset only amount to 128mm at most.

Any idea what might have caused this? Sometimes jam occurs on the fixing unit, causing accordion wrinkle on the bottom end of the paper inside the fixing unit, as if the paper is travelling faster than intended and hit the exit delivery roller before its motor is running? (Which kinda made sense to the mysterious initial offset)

I don't know the model very well but it could be the bushings on the register rollers to be lubricated or problems with the clutch. Did you also set the factory default values?

If the paper is preceding the image, the registration clutch is staying ON all the time, or the clutch is gummy.

If the paper is following the image, the registration clutch may be slipping or the bushings are difficult to turn, resisting the rotation.

In all cases, it's happening at the registration roller.
I am unclear on which it is. Your illustrations do not include the feed direction. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

There's also the solenoid on the paper feed unit that has a noise reduction pad that gets sticky

I worked on these many years...lol. The registration sensor flag actuator arm wears down and shortens(Canon put metal clips on IR32xx series and modded part). If paper has any curl in it, lead edge misses arm and its actuated late, causing image to be transferred late, giving misregistration. Also the sticky reg clutch was mentioned, as was the rubber damper on the end of the flag assembly will get sticky, causing a late actuation of the reg sensor(usually first thing in the morning or after machine sits awhile in this case). Remove the damper(and ones on door). These scenarios will cause timing jams, misregistration. My final input is its an IR...make it a boat anchor
