    Canon PC-745

    Hello,

I am working on an Canon PC-745 copier. The machine picks up the paper. It comes into the machine and jams and shuts off the machine. When turning it back on it shows a jam. Any ideas on this one?

    Thanks,

    BB

I don't know how cheap it can be fixed, probably a bad or shorted power supply or high voltage board.
Could you at least check if the corona wires are ok

The power shouldn't turn off from a jam unless a door was opened by pressure from the paper doing its U turn.
Try feeding just 1 paper through the hand feeder on the lower right side of the machine and/or watch to see if
the little door on the right side of the machine pops open just a smidge while it's feeding the paper out of the drawer.
There are 2 springs that hold that little door closed and if one of them or both are broken off it will jam. You gotta put the springs back on to a spot that's not broken on the door. Just a little drill hole will hold it.

          Hello,

Thank you for the advice. I have feed the paper through the manual tray it jammed at the first sensor flag. It turned the machine off. I check both spring on the flap door and they are strongly supported with those two springs. Any other ideas. I do notice it is hard to close the clam shell, can that cause it to jam and turn off.

          Thanks,

          Brent

The spring mounts that support the upper clam shell used to break through the base of the machine causing this exact issue.

You have done well keeping this 20+ year old copier going !

There was a modification for the spring breaking through the base but you needed a special tool to compress the spring. If the clam shell opens a little the machine will shut off. The paper tray sensor flag used to break and bind in there causing jams.

True...I forgot about the auto shut off, but I corrected some by making changes to the spring mount....many years ago

It's the exposure lamp. It's a florescent bulb and is not getting to full brightness so the machine shuts down.
