Hi All
on a batch of ex lease machines i have 1 with a fault it is low mileage sub 50K
when copying via the document feeder i get e302-0003 code
i have tested a different feeder and updated firmware but still i get the same code
machine works fine when copying from the glass
any advice

Are you sure this is the correct error code, Can't see E302-0003 listed ?

However I would start by updating the system software,

E302-0003-04 Error in paper front white shading
Detection Description The paper front white shading value gradually became out of the specified range.
Remedy [Related parts]
- Harness between the Reader Scanner Unit (J101) and the Reader Controller PCB (J105)
- Reader Scanner Unit
- Reader Controller PCB
[Remedy]
1. Clean the LED, mirror, and Stream Reading Glass of Scanner Unit.
2. Check/replace the related harness/cable, connector and parts.
[Reference] Before replacing the Reader Controller PCB, back up the service mode data (approx.
2 min) and restore the backup data after the replacement so the data may be able to be protected.
- Backup: COPIER (LEVEL2)> FUNCTION> SYSTEM> RSRAMBUP
- Restoration: COPIER (LEVEL2)> FUNCTION> SYSTEM> RSRAMRES

was an odd fault
when copying colour or b/w on the glass worked fine
when copying b/w thru adf worked fine

Error only occurred when copying colour thru the adf

Turned out to be a staple on the Reader Controller PCB

Very common to see this. Clean the optics, mirrors, scratch the glue off the bottom mirror to slide out for cleaning. Then do white level calibration x4

Your advise helped turned out to be the optics unit faulty
possibly caused by the staple on the controller pba
stripped and cleaned optics and adjusted still same
replaced the optics did adjustment and now working fine

If it works fine off the glass but only does it when scanning from the ADF then most likely its the scan flat harness. FM1-T689-000.

I think it is a minor miracle sometimes how a staples, etc can get into the machine; I once had one of those huge paper clips on a pcb in the adf. No clue how it made it's way there.
