    Canon Copier Question

My sister passed away leaving me an copier called the Canon C300. Its a big old machine. I am trying to install it in my friends business and when I turn it on it says "Insert your Control Card".

Bottom line is I do not have a control card. I have already removed the actual control card reader because that is what some dude from a Canon Authorized Dealer told me to do but the message still comes up when i power up the machine. Is there anyway to make this go away so we can just make copies. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help! Thanks.

Call me at 909 263 0763 and I will be eternally grateful

When you removed the control card reader, did you reinstall the jumper from where you disconnected it?

I know nothing about the C300 (as you stated, it's quite old), but that's how it worked with other models.

I remember that typically we would attach the jumper very near where the connector was with a wire tie so that it could be reattached if and when it was required.

There's nothing magic about the jumper; it simply shorts two pins together. (In fact, we would sometimes install a key switch instead of a control card if cost was a factor.) The other two wires, as I recall, were 24 volts, so it goes without saying that shorting the wrong two together could, OK, would, prove disastrous.

I sincerely doubt that it would be possible at this point in time to find a schematic for that model, but I'll let you know if I find one.

    Good luck!

yeah that would be cool if you found that but i am not expecting it my friend. what i did was unscrew the control card reader itself which was attached withlike a plug thing with about 6 wires to the opposite plug thing (for lack of a better word)and no i didn't reattachit to anything it didn't appear that anything else attached to it. but i will have another look.

Pull some covers off and have a look as sometimes techs hide the plug somewhere on the machine so that customers couldn't run off free copies.

Under/inside the control panel will be a 4 pin connector that the reader was connected to. Take a paper clip or wire and jump the 1st & 3rd pins. Wrap it up in elec tape & you're done.

The jumper is on the underside of the control panel. I have one if you get into a bind. You may even find it under there.
