    Canon Imagerunner 3300i & Server 2008

We recently created a new virtual server running Server 2008 Standard 32 bit Edition and I just made it a print server only. Nothing fancy just a stripped down print server using the Print Management as the only role. I added a Xerox Phaser 7750 color printer and a HP Laser-jet 4350N without any issues but I am having several problems with the Canon 3300i primary printer.
    • One guy is printing gibberish
    • some people can print .pdf's some times and some can't
    • Sometimes nobody can print .pdf's
    • I have updated the server with every driver on the canon site but it still won't work
    • The print jobs are not stuck in the queue they won't process
Please help me - I'm scratching my head here!

Have you tried all of postscript, pcl5e and pcl6? Have you tried the drivers using a direct connection and Windows Vista to see if that works? If a direct connection works, it could be a problem with your network or VM. But considering other printers work, that may not be the problem.

Have you checked to make sure the latest system firmware is installed on the 3300i? It's possible that the Vista /Server 2008 drivers have some compatibility problems with old firmware.

If service mode is similar to the 3300 (similar name but different), go into service mode and select Version from the Display tab.

Report on the numbers you can see for DC-CON, R-CON, PS/PCL, MN-CONT, BOOT-ROM, RUI and LANG-EN.

bnmand - thank you for responding! We really felt that since we upgraded to Server 2008 it is now a Firmware issue but we are kinda leary about entering new firmware . . . you know how Murphy's Law works with that! Anyway, Canon says that there newest verision is 24.02 and I'm not quite sure on how to get this printer into Service mode to see where our current version is. Can you walk me through that?
      Thx - John G

Here are the latest version levels:

          DC-Con v12.01
          R-Con v07.01
          MN-CONT v52.03
          Boot-ROM v26.44n
          RUI v26.01
          LANG-EN v52.03

It appears that your copier is way down level, and could certainly use the system software upgrading, if only to rule this out as the reason you can't seem to communicate with it through your server.

I have had weird problems when customers go to Windows Server 2008....machines not waking from sleep ...pdf problems. Turning off SNMP has solved alot of issues...had some that mapped out machine by NIC card MAC address and IP address
