    IR600 Load Paper Problem

I have a Canon IR600 that has, and actually is, working fine. EXCEPT that for both tray 3 and tray 4 is shows "load paper". There is legal in 3 and 11x17 in tray 4. I have both the repair and operators manuals but they are very complicated in how they give directions for setting up tray 3 and tray 4.

What is the secret to turning these tray on and setting the paper size?

    Thanks.

From the control panel touchscreen, when you press on the choose paper supply button, does the cartoon next to 3 and 4 show any paper levels? Is this "load paper" message in regards to a print job? Can you make copies from 3 and 4, regardless of what paper size is indicated in the drawers?

      trays 3 & 4

There is no paper indicated in trays 3 & 4.

I cannot print to tray 4 (11x17) nor can I copy to it or select it. It will not let me select it.

If I put a piece of 11x17 on the glass it says to load 11x17 paper.

As you push the cassette do you hear motors lift.
        They should lift.
Have you check behind the cassettes to see if there is paper stuck.
These are some of the first simple steps to troubleshooting this type of problem.

          tray 3 & 4

I am not at work now. Will check as soon as I can. But I do not remember hearing anything that might have been a tray lifting.

            problem trays 3 & 4

I can hear the lifting motor. If I change the amount of paper in either trays 3 or 4 there is a difference in the length of time the motor runs, indicating that it is lifting properly.

I would check the paper pick up assy's.
Check the paper level sensors and the flag arm.

This started with a problem that the bottom tray was calling for being A3 paper instead of ledger (11x17). It would print from the computer onto 11x17 but if you tried to make a copy it said to load 11x17. The 11x17 was in tray 4 and legal in tray 3. I tried to reset the copier to 11x17 on tray 4. It was set at 18 instead of 16 and it would not let me change it. I could change it to 16 but it would not save it. Then I noticed that tray 3 was not showing up all of a sudden. When I checked the tray 4 I found that the tray width had been set out to A3 by some #$&#(%&#%(*&()*&$l. I reset it to the proper width but by then both trays were not recognized.

I don't think it is an issue with the trays or physical with the copier. I believe it is just something in the setup.

There a spec sheet that comes with the machine. Check the specs C3STMTR, C3-A4R, C4STMTR and C4-A4R.
Go to copier>function>cst and perform the adjustments for C3STMTR, C3-A4R, C4STMTR and C4-A4R.

                    I had done that numerous times. I did it again and got C3STMTR = 127; C3-A4R = 127; C4STMTR = 207 AND C4-A4R = 207.

                    The spec sheet says 124, 125, 207, 207 respectively.

                    Still doesn't work

Not sure if this copier has this function. Its been a while since I've work on one of these
In user mode [Common Settings>Drawer Eligibility For APS/ADS>select either of 'Copy', 'Printer', 'Mail Box' or 'Receive/Fax'], select 'ON' for paper drawers to be used.

                        problem with trays 3 & 4

I did that and they were not on. I turned them on but no difference. They were turned on for the printer. Before I could print to the tray 4, ledger, but could not copy. That probably would explain that situation.

I turned the machine off and on but no affect.

I went through the C3... c4... bit and checked the widths. came up the same but still doesn't show the paper in the icon and if I select tray 3 or tray 4 it says "load paper". But it will let me select them now where not before.

I would check those paper level sensors. Cut wire ties, reseat connectors for pick up assy on DC controller. Have you pulled out the pick up assy for three and four.

                              trouble with trays 3 & 4

If it is something on the boards inside I will just wait and call our service tech when we get the cash in. I have been inside the copier before but don't feel like it would be best now. Getting too old to crawl around there, etc. Besides, it is probably a good time to have him out for a routine service and check rollers, clean, etc. He is actually very reasonable.

If it were something I could clear up from the panel then I wanted to try that. Besides, he needs to make a living too.

Appreciate the help though. THANKS ALOT.
