    i HATE THIS ERROR CODE/

replace black toner message -will not display when blk.cartridge is empty/ throws error code.

have replaced new black drum/ checked ATR BLK Sgn/ok- check M23 blk supply motor ok/

Canon is up in the air

There's also a toner feedscrew rotation sensor PS4. The jack #708 off of the relay PCB. I mean toner is being fed, its confusing.
But how does the machine know when toner is low and we know how that's done, by patches laid down on the ITB and the ATR sensor and that turns out good by what you stated. Again its confusing.

thanks for info/ funny thing is toned cartridge is empty when error pops up / i wonder if it could be a defective lot of OEM drum units with poor ATR sensors/ have to check serial product numbers/ report back later ,

I have another question. Does it happen in any of the other colors?
        There is a function under service mode LVL2 Copier>Options > Body > T-LW-LVL
By increasing the value of T-LW-LVL an alert message will be displayed with a higher percentage of toner still in the cartridge.
I would just used this for troubleshooting though not for normal operation.
Try flashing the machine especially DCON.

Error only with black/ the replace toner message works on other colors -except black /M23 BK toner container motor is working is working, M15 Blk dev.motor is working . Blk .Toner unit is feeding toner/Blk. drum unit is receiving the toner ok. all signals are working , except when the ATR in Blk Drum units should signal that Black toner is low or needs to be replaced.

          DC controller PCB 2 (MAISY)

          ATR CTRL K j110 pin 13

          V 24v j110 pin 14=24v

          SIG K J110 PIN 15

          GD j110 pin 16

it is getting to look like a memory issue / will try to re flash DCon

          I
          found this: pg.227 SM

Items of control by internal memory :
1 -color of toner inside drum unit
          2 -cumulative number of prints
3 -cumulative number of video counts
4 -data on life of drum unit
5 -data on toner supply control
6 -data on life of toner container

          toner receptacle replacement >
When the toner supply screw revolution reaches the threshold and the ATR sensor value is lower than specified.
When the toner supply screw revolution reaches 100 % of the specified value.

It does sound like your next step might be pushing Dcon to it, and possibly doing a DC-Con clear and re-establish all the settings....

              I'm with DCON on this.
              My other question?
              where is this internal memory?
I'm guessing.. Maybe on the masiy board(DC PCB2)
That board pretty much controls the printer unit.
