    canon IR 2200 Series noise

I have 2 Canon 2200 series copiers doing exactly the same thing and nobody in my branch has heard of this noise. It doesn't happen all the time only after a large copy job is run or after the copier gets a few copy jobs run on it so it's hot. All the jobs that were run were simplex. One of the copiers is a base machine and the other has an internal finisher. After the copy job finishes there is a whine noise that I can best describe as a low cry or cow moo sounding. It almost sounds like a motor or fan powering down and it is coming from the back side of the machine near the fusing exhaust fan/laser scanner unit area. Now I have replaced the following items on the machine with no avail:

    Fixing Assemby
    Fusing Exhaust Fan
    Laser scanner unit
    Drum

I have tested the output of each of the 14 motors available for testing in service mode and none make the noise that I'm hearing.

Anyone come across this I am puzzled and I haven't seen anything in navi either on this.

Does it do it if you drop the T-Bed? Cheat the door and drop the t-bed mid noise.

Main drives prone to going on 2200's. I have had to fit quite a lot of them for noise.

I concur,,, it is not fun if they have all the toys like fax in the way, but pulling this drive assembly out and replacing/lubing it is likely to resolve the noise issue.

I had the same sound you described one time, turned out to be the fuser lower bushings. Hmm fixing cleaning mode, good tip. I have had hard drives make similar sounds before they died also.

                update

Tried main motor, dev fan and checked if the fixing cleaning was on and it was not, and the noise on both machines continues.

Sounds like you have a date with the main drive cluster assembly, just take your time and all will be O.K. Have a new one in hand to make the project quicker, instead of having to remove, then disassemble and lube, reassemble, and reinstall. Also make sure to drop the transport down, so it will not hang the belt drive, making it harder to remove...

You can always repair the original one before you move onto the second machine ;-)

                    imageRUNNER 2200 / 2800 / 3300 Squealing Noise

The shaft located in the upper rear left corner of the paper pick-up assembly is getting worn down. The belt support plate in figure 310, item 10 over time may start to spin with the belt causing a squealing noise from the metal to metal contact. Clean the plate and shaft, then lubricate with a silicone based grease to eliminate the noise.

Check the paper pick up assembly. There is a metal disc found in the paper pick up drive; located above the paper pick up unit's PCB.The metal disc comes in contact with the paper pick up unit's plastic housing. This metal disc will need to be re lubricated over time as the lubrication will wear away. The lubricant used is a lithium based grease. Canon provides a part number for this type of grease, it is CK-0427-000. The side of the metal disc that needs lubrication would be the side that faces the rear of the machine. The red arrow, in the picture provided below, points to the metal disc and the side that should be lubricated.
