HDD has caused this issue on the 3220 series in the past.

if you are having poor copy quality then you to scan a sample in so we can see what the machine is printing like.
I do not have the list of compatible HDD's with me at the moment, but yes you can get a regular HDD and load the firmware on it.

Make sure that the Fuser roller > engage and release handle is in the correct position/
            FIX U.JPG

Take out the unit to examine if the fuser rollers engage & release properly when u turn the small handle.
Have seen these re-built/ & new units have faulty release/engage= Cause poor fusing.

If u don't lose power to printer-
the intermittent loss of Panel screen could be a result of bad or failing RAM MEMORY/ remove / clean ends/re-seat them
or U may have a stuck panel key/
or one that sticks and is slow to release fully

also check your timer sleep mode /power saver settings/low power mode settings

            Power Save Functions
            1. Standby Mode
In standby mode, the machine is in operation or is ready to operate, with all its parts supplied with power.
            2. Power-Save Mode
Shift: A shift to power-save mode is initiated only in response to a press on the Save Power button on the control panel.
            Description:
This mode conforms to the standards under Energy Star.
Shift: A shift is made only in response to the passage of time (auto low-power shift time) selected in user mode.
            Description:
Shift: A shift is made in response to the passage of time (auto sleep shift time) specified in user mode or in response to a press on the control panel software power switch.
Description: In sleep mode 1 (relatively higher power consumption), the fixing assembly is totally deprived of power. The DC controller PCB, however, remains supplied with power.
In sleep mode 2 (relatively lower power consumption), on the other hand, the printer unit (including the fixing assembly) remains OFF; the main controller PCB is supplied with all-night power .
