I do not believe this model monitors drum life or page count, it only goes on how much the waste toner sensor is moving. If you hear a pretty consistant clicking as the machine is printing, that is your waste toner sensor. I have had no luck dumping the drums waste toner, but if you are in a bind (at least temporailry until you get a new drum), I have had luck removing the waste toner sensor flag that is on the rear of the front of the drum. I believe it is only a couple of screws and the little assembly comes off and your clicking and message goes away. Be warned I have never made this a permanent fix, so I do not know what happens if the drum becomes full of waste toner. Good luck sir.

        Hi Gleg & Canon HPtech,
Thanks for quick responsed. You all right, I have both message, waste toner full and need new drum. But I thought it is 2 separate problem. So, I'll try to remove waste toner and see what happen. Thanks again.

HOw did you accomplish this sir? Is there really a counter under service mode? I wasn't aware of one. Please let us know how you cleared the message. Thanks.

Hi Canon HPTech, I just did as "Whileyouhere" posted, and the message is gone. But it took me a while to figure out because he left out some small details.

Service Mode----Counters----Misc------Wst-TNR----Use the Clear Key to reset.

Clear key is on the left side (#12), you have to hit the FUNCTION key first then #12.
Also, I noted after I did this the clicking sound that you mention is gone too.

                    Thanks to Whileyouhere.

Will this procedure work as well on
Canon NP 1500 to reset "replace the
                      drum" message?

                      Thank you.

I've had particularly bad luck with emptying waste toner on the small Canons. They collect quite a bit of paper dust, lint, and what-have-you. A lot of that what-have-you is quite abrasive, and if it's caught under the cleaning blade it will take out the drum in (2) t-w-o copies. I guess you've got nothing to lose if the waste toner light is on. Just don't be altogether surprised........
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
                        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
                        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
                        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
                        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

                          drum

                          hey guy
if you dont replace the drum it WILL come back.
WE rebuild a lot of those drums and you will need to remove and clean the waste toner actuator shaft bushing area, even if you just empty the drum unit, been there done that.
