        NetHawk Cable

        Hi Guys!

Finally, I got Toshiba HDD (proper one), and USB-to-Parallel Cable (Generic). When I connected this cable to my PC (Windows XP Pro SP3), it automatically installed USB Printing driver for this cable. Then I installed SST 3.35 and tried to change this USB Printing (in Device Manager) driver to NetHawk driver (which is in one of the subfolders of SST installation). I could not change this driver. My PC does not see iR3300 with this cable and I can not put firmware in the copier. Please, advise...

The generic USB-to-Parallel Cable is not a nethawk one. It is incompatible with the nethawk driver. You need to get a nethawk cable (don't know how, I would've got one if I knew how) or get a computer that has a parallel port to do the trick and use a bi-centronics aka IEEE1284 parallel cable.

            Yes!

Thanks to everyone, who helped me with my problem. I was able to upload Firmware v43.01 to my iR3300. I got new HDD, Bi-Centronics cable and a laptop with the parallel port. Then I had to download old SST (v3.34) and old Firmware (v43.01) because the new SST (v3.35E) and new Firmware (v45.01) didn't want to do it's job. So, my iR330 is up and running perfectly at the moment.

Now there's another big problem. We can print from Windows machines, but not from Mac-s. I've downloaded PS Print Driver for iR3300 from Canon website, installed it and tried to set up a new printer in System Preferences of Mac OS X 10.5.6. Canon iR3300 appears in the printer list, but when I try to print a test page, it prints the message "error ocurred = -9786". If anyone is using Macintosh computers to print on iR3300, please, give some advise... I would be extremely grateful.

            Thanks a lot in advance!

I have a mac laptop. I might be able to have a look in a month or two to see if I can my mac to work with the IR3300. I would be interested to hear of any tips of how to get it to work too.

Oh and if you wish to scan documents that'll only work on Windows unfortunately. I recommend using Adobe Acrobat 9 with the Canon ScanGear Tool. It works great for me.

I have not had any problems printing with my mac book or any other macs old or new to the Canon's. I have noticed that some models will not print the printer test pages, if you print from any application they print properly.

Are you using latest driver? This is the latest in the states.
PS v1.81 Printer Driver for Macintosh OS X10.5 supports the Power PC: Mac OS X v10.2.8 to v10.5 & Intel: Mac OS X v10.4.4 to v10.5. This driver adds support for Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard).

No luck so far... :-( There's no problem to do all the work from Windows machines. Some of my colleagues use Windows at our office, and others use Mac OS X. I really need to set it up on Mac machines. Let's see, what happens. Couple of days google search didn't give any useful info.

Sounds interesting. Yes, I was only trying to print a test page, and haven't tried printing from any of applications. I'll test it and let you know about results. Thanks for suggestion... :-)

P.S. I just tried to print from Microsoft Word and nothing happens... Window appears saying that the print job is stoped... :-( Printer is paused. When I press Resume, nothing happens again.

You need the sst and firmware.

Learning to use the sst takes a bit of time.

To keep things simple: Make sure you have an IEEE1284 parallel cable. Put the new hard drive in the copier where the old one was. Make sure you turn the machine off and disconnect power before opening the machine.

Connect copier to computer using IEEE1284 parallel cable.

Install SST (if you haven't already) and open it and register the IR3300N firmware if Networked as well as IR3300, but just IR3300 if not.

Put the machine into download mode by turning off copier and then on again using switch on the side and then pressing 2 and 8 as it starts up.

Download the firmware onto the copier. Make sure you select bi-centronics cable as the means to download the firmware onto the copier and Use Overwrite mode to make sure it always replaces what's on the copier even if it's the same version. Download ALL_HDF ... Don't use the ALL one as replacing a HDD requires you to format it (hence the HDF).

Turn copier off again and disconnect computer.

                          Turn copier back on again.

If you have any errors please post with what errors you get. Your parallel port must be in ECP mode in BIOS (usually accessible using a button such as F10 on startup of computer) and settings of computer on Win XP.

It wasn't working for me and I changed the parallel port from ecp to something else in the bios. Booted up and realised my mistake and then changed it back. All of a sudden SST started to work for me.

There are a lot of areas in which you can make mistakes in using the SST.

If you get an error when using it post back.

If your hdd is not in the list in the HDFormat.itf file you will need to try editing the file or getting a different HDD.

So why is the Fujitsu MHV2040AH (generic name for wm2-5235-000) mentioned in the HDFormat v15 file? Is it just on the list but with wrong information for the ir3300?
