you need to edit the hdi file under the roms folder in service tool to include the hard drive model you are using

ie inside the format option open the format file with notpad you will se lots of diff drives

toshiba mk2023gas

I know this is an old thread, but here goes. I have several Travelstar/Hitachi drives that are listed in the ift file...
IC25N020ATMR04-0
Some of them will format and load the system files just fine and others will not. I have had them working in laptop computers, and put them on the copier, and reistalled the system OK on some but not on all of them.
Any ideas would be appreciated. I also made diferent copies of the ift file and added the above drive in all of the IC25N entries.

For hard disk model listed in ift and yet cannot install system , a posible reason could be printer IDE controller is fixed at UDMA mode 4. Only harddisk that support UDMA mode 4 and above will work. Say sorry for the older UDMA mode 2 HDD. Or think of someway to switch down the printer IDE controller to UDMA mode 2.

Thanks for the tip. I tried a different printer cable, and they started to connect up and transfer system files OK. The other cable had been working, so I'm not sure what happened. I have been getting hard drives out of our old laptops that match up to the ift file and making up spares so I have extras on hand.

This is why I rarely respond to hard drive problems anymore. If you are not a certified Canon Tech, it is to complicated to explain the use of the Service Support Tool over a forum. All this shit about cloneing drives and trying to cheat the system is a waste of time and money and you sure aren't taking care of the customer!!!

Sorry, lkrsardis... I've just noticed this post. The matter is that our local Canon Service guys cloned the drive for me. It works only as a copier, not as a printer. My iR3300 has the NIC installed. It was delivered to us as a gift from European Commission with Network option enabled, but it's written iR3300 on the front panel, not iR3300n. So, a year ago, I was able to put SYSTEM software on it and it worked fine. Now (due to blackouts in our country) the HDD is broken down again and I had to repair it. Canon Service guys cloned the drive again and as usual, it works as a copier only. I tried to upload SYSTEM part, with SST 3.35 and 4.22, but no luck. It gives the following error code: 13 and Sub code 12. I don't know, what to do. Service people say that they don't have proper HDD image for my iR3300 and have only copier-mode image.

everybody think the higher version of sst will work properly. but how many people knows the latest version for 3300, 5000, 7200, xx00 models? for connecting in parellel cable 3.24version. for network 3.35 version only. if you not agree with me? while downloading using 4.22 version you see the DLM3(ver3.24) for bi-centro cable. DLM4(ver3.35) for network. but in my laptop i put 1.63version to dowload in windows98. DLM3 have high speed mode in that. so downloading finish in 40sec in parallal cable.

I hope, there is a backup image of HDD. I will download it, does not matter, how big it is. Please, help...
I can not format HDD, as I don't have exactly 20 Gb model here. I got 40 Gb Hitachi HDD (model: DK23EA-40), which is not in the list of the Firmware's HDFormat section. There is a *.itf file with the list of HDDs, but my Hitachi is not listed there.

i have sst and ir3300 firmware..so i can format HDD..but some model of HDD, my sst notice that HDD is not compatible..so i aware this is happen because of my HDD format in firmware just support 25 model of HDD only (using notepad to view my ift file in HDD format folder)..so i can modified by copy and paste a same brand and change with other model name..and also add a total HDD support..but i still have a problem with so many brand and model of new HDD.. as i know new firmware (**13) is better that mine (***7)..so anybody who have new firmware version.. can u help me to copy and paste your HDD list (from notepad ift file in HDD format folder in IR2200/3300 firmware).. u can copy and paste here or e-mail me.. nazmi_exa@yahoo.com in notepad..
