    ir 550 d1 finisher

    I have a d1 finisher that shows a 0006 (staple) jam at sensor 119.
When corner stapling the first set does fine, on the second set when the staple head moves toward the front some times it does not go far enough.
i"ve tried cleaning and lubing the rails and cleaning all the sensors.
    Any ideas out there?
    Thanks keith

Sounds like you may have a weak motor that drives the Stapler or some obstruction you can't see. The weak motor sounds more like it though.

If I remember correctly, the pinion gear can walk off of the motor that drives stapler movement. It usually only affects movement to the rear. The motor can be inspected easily from the rear.
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

clarification please. I just want to make sure i understand correctly. when it staples, it staples one corner, always staples the one corner on the first try.
the staple head moves back out of the way then forward again(or toward the paper) for the next set to staple. not front to rear of finisher?
Though it never fails on the first try? Its really been a long time since I saw a ir 600. First of all I like to start with a clean stapler. remove the head and remove all the blank and used up staples that are not in the cartridge. Located under the cart area stuck to the staple motor magnet.
Also,Look real close to make sure there is nothing in the way of the stapler movement as it goes forward, as Copier_Guy explained. If the gear on the motor is metal or brass and if it was slipping as Blackcat explained, then there must be some tremendous force it has to fight against in order for it to slip like that. To prove Blackcat's theory you need to mark the gear and the shaft in the same place on the motor to see if it moves from that location. Its good to rule and narrow things down.
Its also a good idea to lube the moving components. Have you tried to remove the head and turn it by hand and see if there is a glitch in it somewhere? If I had to make a bet, i would go with Blackcat this time. Since the stapler code indicates movement to and from sensor not fast enough (jam code created when .5 seconds go by and sensor doesn't change). Replace the head or just try the motor.
This is only an opinion of course.

thanks guys i am going back out there today.
when this finisher corner staples the staple head moves to the rear and staples the first set fine. the second set is shifted forward about10mm the staple head then moves in theory the same, but sometimes not quite enough.
          it double staples just fine.

I went back to this machine today and removed the staple head and cleaned the sensors and lubed the gears. It seams to work fine now. Thanks everybody.
