We rented a Ir3570 (without) meaps licence. told customers IT people that you can pull scan with software that has an aquire function. IT people tell me they cant find a free software that works. i told them they need to purcahse a full version of something like adobe. they insist that the scanning function does not work any suggestions as to what can be done?

There are many free softwares for scanning, they came bundled with the purchase of a scanner like Adobe Photoshop Elements (a cheap version of Photoshop).
Tell the IT people to install canon Network Scangear and discover the machine, this is the TWAIN driver for Canon iR machines. -

they need to download and install NWSG for the pull scanning to work and you can use freeware to open the docs that you create.

Color Network Scangear will not work with this machine, it is only black and white.

I researched free scanning software, and found the following, here is it's description from SourceForge.net

"ScanTWAIN is an Open Source TWAIN production quality scanning application based on QT 3.x. ScanTWAIN allows for duplex scanning from automatic document feeder (ADF) based scanners via TWAIN. "

In its terms of use,SourceForge states that its services are not available to users in countries on the sanction list of the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (including Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan and Syria). okay we downloaded the net work scan gear form the eurpoe site its in german? when we use discover it finds the ip address but says it is scanning is disabled?Comment

Make sure Nw-scan is set to 1 in service mode and Enable dedicated Port under Additional Functions>System Settings> Network Settings is set to ON-
If you are using Network ScanGear for the first time after installing it, the network scanner to be used must be selected with the ScanGear Tool. The Network ScanGear driver cannot be started at the same time as the ScanGear Tool. If the ScanGear Tool is running, close it.
Network ScanGear is started by accessing it from a TWAIN compliant application as follows:
1. On the imageRUNNER-iR copier, press the Scan button. Press Online.
2. On the PC, start the TWAIN-compliant application.
3. In the application, select Network ScanGear as the scanner to be used. In the application, choose the command that selects a scanner, then select Network ScanGear in the dialog box that appears. After doing this operation once, there is no need to repeat it.
4. In the application, choose the command that starts scanning operation (for example, "Scan New" or "Acquire").
