When placing an original on the glass the scanner does a lot of jumping around.... stretching the image, sometimes off by 1/2 inch.... Scanning through the doc feed seems ok. Am I looking at a board problem? Scan rails are greased. My experience with the 3570 has not been good. Any help is much appreciated. Thank, Kurt

jumping bean
you say its jumping? if it moves freely by hand then, is it jumping at home position or during a scan? if it is during a scan i would say check the motor cable and the pcb where it connects to. sounds like a stepping motor problem, whether it be the board that drives it or even the board before that, that gives instruction for it to work. i have found bad connection to cause this because it step properly.Home must be working so it scans from doc feeder. even the stepping motors fail.I have seen when the stepping motor will catch when turning it by hand. What i mean you can turn through the steps very slowly(disconnected from any pc board since you can generate power while turning) then it will catch. It catches on one of the coils inside. I saw it and took one apart to see. not on a 3570 though. maybe the scan lock is not working right. any particular place during the scan it craps out and starts jumping? other than that i dont really have a clue at this time -

After looking at the machine up front I wonder if if one of your buddies are messing with you. Check and see if the contact sensor is fully seated on the center scan bar. It was a trick at school.Like the United States Postal Service It's a miracle it works!Comment

Two things:
Grease and scanner rails can be a bad combination. I'm sure I'll get an earful for this comment, but I have always used straight weight 30W motor oil (like for your lawn mower). That was part of the cure for the old Mita 313ZD's that would scan past home position and slam into the left side of the machine. I've been using it ever since. It's a little thicker than your Triflow, and not sludge, like the grease.
This scanner has a couple of unusual features. Light Source One uses glides that ride right on the underside of the glass. When it moves to the slit glass it has to 'jump' the white level reference. When copying off of the glass it also 'jumps' the white level reference leaving a blurr in the first 10mm of the leading edge. I could see no simple solution for this.If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
