Canon IR 5000 Washed Out Image

    Hi All,

I've got a customer with a Canon IR 5000 that has an uneven/washed out image on every copy.

Partial sky shot is fairly crappy too. 8.5 x 11 shows good coverage at the top from about 0-1 inch, then the rest is washed out. I thought it might be arcing at the transfer assembly, but high voltage tape didn't seem to help.

I work on all types of copiers for a small copy repair shop, so my knowledge and resources for Canon stuff is limited.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
    RepairGuy

    dev assy

check the developing cylinder. the coating on the metal roller disappears over time and use and does not hold toner anymore. check dev drive clutch etc.

If developer assembly is ok (would be my first guess also), check the trans/sep assembly. Make sure it is clean and the coronas are in good shape.

While you are at it, check out the primary and pre-transfer corona assemblies just so you know the drum is getting an even charge.

Thanks for the quick response guys.

We suspected that the developer or dev. cylinder might be at fault too. Will use your suggestions as soon as I can get back to them.

Anyone know where I could get a service manual for this beast?

        Thanks again,

These developing units usually last 1.5M to 2M.
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Start with restringing the corona wires, I work on a ton of these and this is the #1 most common thing.Use the brown wire if available, if not use the gold wire.

Those are all the fixes for a problem like that, but if you still have the problem after checking and confirming those areas, check the toner dispensing also. Had one once where the dispenser crapped out and did the same thing.
