we get it a lot.all info from the drum is stored on the chip.surface of drum etc.hence the reason if you go look at the life the old drums life will be still there.
we have now stopped swoping chips.anyway its easier taking laser out and cleaning it.on theses machines that should be part of the normal cleanining of mc.
you will notice that life of the drum will drop down a lot.(if you are lucky enough not to get issue)

Tried cleaning the laser, didn't solve the problem, will try replacing it and the patch sensor Assy. It looks like i did something wrong, it was working before i replaced the Bk Drum and it doesn't work even if i put the old drum back Please don't say that Canon machines are the best because they are not!

You are right, that was the solution in more than 3 occasions. Forget about the service manual, it will confuse you

Does anyone have any new info on this issue?
Saw an irac2225 today, its been running great for months, I attended for jamming (worn fuser) I fitted a new one all good but drum was at 120% while I was on site fitted a new k drum it threw e020-1360.

I checked all the usual, cleaned optics, removed & cleaned laser & patch sensors, ssw is current. Even fitted another new drum, same issue, only option was to sawp the black drum chip now all good but as it has been said not an actual fix.

Error :

E020-1360 Error Code after replacement of the black drum.
Description: Abnormal detected patch reading value. Light patch although setting 7 for patch level (unable to fit in the target between 550 and 640).

The polygon mirror for the lasers was cleaned, no change. If the old drum is installed, no code. The code is present on boot up.


Workaround :

Had tech install the new drum, went in to Service Mode and did a DC Controller backup. Then, did a DC Controller clear and rebooted. Doing the DC Controller Clear resolved the E020-1360 Error Code.

Note: Because the DC Controller Clear resolved the Error Code, a restore was not performed. It was suggested to enter the Door Specification which is located above the toner bottles and do a Full Auto Gradation along with an Auto Color Correct Mismatch.

The DC Controller Clear was only suggested once it was known that the Laser Polygon mirror was cleaned.

The pub assumes it's in de DC controller, why does the error disapear if you reseat the old drum or swap the chip ?
Why doesn't the error come back if you swap the drum the next time : ie if the new one with the old chip is worn/gives lines ?
Why does it sometimes disapear if you swap the new drum for another new drum ?

For me, still too much "sometimes this works, sometimes another thing works..."....

In practice : I clean laser and mirrors, if that doesn't work i swap with another drum, if that doesn't work or I don't have one, I shrug and swap the chip.
It'll solve itself with the next drum swap.

Exactly, i've spent a lot of time updating SSW, replacing a new laser, new ITB & ALL drums only for it not to sort the issue, simply swapping the drum chip does!

Is it just coincidence the black drum is also the worst in CQ and it's Life % ? I don''t think so... I think the black drum should be called the Brown drum because it's a piece of sh*t....

Check the front and rear clamp lever locks and springs. PN's FE2-2109-000 & RC2-7246-000, and FU9-2530. We've had a rash of IrAdv2230's with E020-xxx code. A number of them have the rear lock lever popped out, so the 2ndary transfer is not being retracted. That interferes with the patch sensor cover retracting. Then it throws the error.

The same error seems to have multiple causes...
I doubt there is just one magic solution...

Btw if you have a rash of machines popping out springs, maybe someone should be more gentle...
