Although what I ask you to do might seem stupid - there is a logic behind (which is too long to explain)

The current print-heads which you are using are the new ones or the old ones ?
You should use the new ones. There is a slight chance that a "bad" print head can damage the main board.
I have seen it happen a couple of times.

So with the new print heads:

      1.Turn off the printer.

      2. Remove & reinsert each print head 3 times in a row.

      3. Turn on in SM and print a nozzle check (from Service Menu). Scan it and upload here

      4. Turn off & Turn On in User Mode. Can you get to Online State ?

Re: Canon IPF 8300S Hardware error

VP, I had a replace right print head error originally and got a new head and started getting a 2F48 error. So thinking it might be the left print head now I did something I probably shouldn't and put the old right print head in the left position. Caused a print head error. So I put the old left one in. Now the old left print head consistently tells me to replace it. No more 2F48. The funny thing is that when I do a head info it shows all nulls - no info. MDOT is 0. Elapsed days is like 4250 or thereabout. Tried your replace head 3 times trick - but no luck. Any idea how I can get the printer to at least recognize the old left print head again? Want to do that before buying another print head - prior to replacing the right head nozzle checks showed good. By the way - what does the replace head 3 times trick do??

I see you posting same thing over and over.

                    Teckat already answered to you.

"I admire him for his long and detailed explanation posts"

I am lazy - that's why my posts are much shorter.

                    Anyway:

In your case it is either printheads or printheads + mainboard.

Sorry pal but printhead is not a pingpong ball to be played around.

So I would flash to the latest firmware and buy new head.

@nykr95.I do agree V-P is lazy but he gets the solution so I didnt ask too many questions . Besides this thread is for a different issue and you have a solution on the thread you opened by teckat.

Re: Canon IPF 8300S Hardware error

The issue that Teckat responded to went away when I reseated the right print head. I no longer get the 2F48 message. That is why I responded to this thread which seemed to be similar to the issue I now have which was the replace left print head error. Since the left print head is not recognized I thought perhaps its not the head but just the printer refusing to read it for some reason. If that does not happen unless the print head failed or there is no way to force the printer to read a print head - than just say so. It may not make sense to you - but I ask questions to help me troubleshoot - and or understand how things works - as do many other people who will read the thread later. It's easy to just say replace these 5 things - but I want to replace what is failing not the entire machine if its not necessary. Most manufacturers do not ask the technicians to troubleshoot but to get the printers running - so they replace multiple items and test the components later. I thought this forum was about better understanding how things work.

No not a Canon technician. I am an unemployed engineer who tried to make a little extra cash by buying a used ipf8300 to print photographs. I didn't realize the cost of ink waste and that only flat rate repair is avail in US. In US cost is $1500 for repair and does not include consumables such as heads. I was an IBM field engineer in the past - so I am familiar with customer equip repair.

The firmware version is 1.26 - I couldn't find a newer version so did not upgrade.
