[Misc] Canon C5045i - (very) slow copying and printing

Hi all, first post here for me! We have two year-old Canon C5045i copiers. One has recently started printing and copying extremely slowly, the other is still as it was when first installed. The slow one does speed up a little after a reboot cycle, but is still not as fast as the other - it is literally taking 8-10 minutes to make 30 copies of a one-sided A4 B&W page. Users have no access to settings, I am the only one who has admin access and I've never changed anything since install. Nothing shows up on Google so advice is welcome! Our support company is also a bit stuck at moment and our staff are getting understandably frustrated

You probably need to POST a bit more info to get a more informed reply from the Big Guns, like - Network, Fiery, Software Programs, when NOT connected to Network does the copy speed return etc. Otherwise install latest Firmware & try removing & reseating Memory Dimms.

You may have to ask for anything I don't mention! The copier is networked, printing and copying is affected and at present we have no network speed or performance issues elsewhere - it runs on a static IP on a fully GBit LAN. The printing is done from a Server 2008 R2 share on the latest drivers. The copier firmware has not been altered since install in Jan 2012. We don't use any fiery devices - I will try disconnecting from the network and see what happens

Sound like you need a new hard drive and a fresh install of the system software. Had a machine doing the same thing, that is how I finally resolved it. You could try taking the hard drive out of the other machine if they are the same and see if it resolves the problem.

check paper gsm, & re install printer drivers. also try printing on different PC.

It is happening for copying even if the network is disconnected if that makes any difference? Happens across all PC's too.

Use Self Diagnostics tool to locate issue. If you get OK result try with initialize user settings.

Is the interface slow and unresponsive? If so, replace the dimms of Main Controller 1 and reinstall software.

If only ouput is slow, there could be something wrong in the fixing film. Take to much time to heat up/cool off.

Re: Canon C5045i - (very) slow copying and printing

                    Hi to all,

I find the discussion and the different ideas very interesting.

If the HD is faulty, printing a single black and white page in several prints will not alter the speed. Once the document is sent to the RAM, the printing speed does not depend on the HD anymore. am i wrong ?

The printing speed may be affected by a bad positionning of the fixing belt during the print cycle. It always takes time to take the right position. Fixing belt part number: FM3-5951-000.

                    Good luck.

                      Rachid,

The belt is a film, the only possition is wrapped around a single heater. It cannot really move or slide. If it doesn;t warm up right because of a broken heater, printing is slowed down.

Also if the main controller is slow, everything is slow.

Copying is slow ?? / also what is your location ?
have u tried a line monitor test w/a print out reading ?

what test are u performing to substantiate this ?
and are your test the same speed for Printing & Copying ?

                          do the easy stuff first-------------
Before replacing any boards or parts, remove the Dimms and Memory, clean and re-insert.

If fixing film is not maintaining the correct temperature it will cause the machine to slow down.
with no error or alarm codes

Check the service mode for TEMP-C in Display>Analog.
Check if the TEMP-C value is dropping to approx 150 degrees.
Normal value is closer to 190/200 degrees.
Replace the fixing film assembly: FM3-5950-000, and re-test.

                          OR
                          replace the hard drive

Are the mashines at the same customer? if so, interchange them, and see if the error remains at the mashine or at the place, so you can sort out network errors on customers side. SEcond: does the slow mashine feed SEF per accident? if so, you are running into the problem all adv5xxx has, because there is no flux blend present due to the construction of the fusing unit. Feeding SEF or small formats results in a drastic slowdown of copy speed to prevent overheating in the non used fusing areas. No way around it, broken by design

check the setting in service mode for FN-ENTMP.

This is found in level 1>Copier>Option>Im-Fix (second screen) and set from default '0' to '-3' and re-test.

several cases this has been remedied by removing the fuser unit (four captive screws within the white plastic collars), then cleaning and re-seating the fuser connection.
