I was digging through some old inventory and found this spring scale, it indicates its for canon, the part number is ck-0058-000. What is it used for?

old school tool to judge how much "pull" the df's had on the NP series. Frame it and keep it for sentimental purposes they aren't used on any digital machines anymore. Unless you still have GP200's in your territory. -
Re: found this spring scale ck-0058-000. What is it?
It was indispensable on the more complex Canon document feeders with 12 or more separation belts and 12 or more feed belts. It was not uncommon to change 75 individual rollers in a single DF rebuild.
The way it worked is:
1) Cut a strip of standard 20# (75gsm) paper 50mm wide, legal length.
2) Fold over 25mm of the end and put a couple of staples through it in the center. Poke a 3mm hole just below the staple.
3) Place your strip in between the feed/separation rollers you were trying to adjust. Hook the scale through the hole. Close the DF
4) Apply a little tension to the scale against the feed direction. Enable the function to run the DF motors.
5) Watching the scale while pulling against the feed direction, noting the highest value.
Ideal separation values are between 250 and 350 grams/meter squared. On the Canon document feeders there were adjusting screws to increase or decrease separation. A sure indication that the rollers were too worn to function is a reading below 200 g/m2.
These document feeders were a huge improvement over their predecessors, and supremely overcomplicated. Without the scale it was nearly impossible to get the DF to function. Starting with the RADF-1, RADF-II, RADF-A1/B1/C1/D1 and a few of the smaller ADF-A1/C1/D1 and DADF-A1/C1/D1 this tool was required.
Most DF's now, you just throw in three or four tires, and you're done. =^..^=Last edited by blackcat4866; 07-30-2013, 12:32 AM.If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.

If we can manage to keep learning we can remain relevant. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
