Have a IRC-3080 with 130K copies on it. We replaced all three color drum units last week. Did not have a new black drum, so left the old one in and cycled up the machine with the 3 new color drums installed. The machine ran okay showing no error codes. Went back a couple of days ago and installed the new black drum. Machine cycled up after black drum install and ran fine. After mach sat idle for a short time the red error message started flashing. The error shows to Insert drum cartridge black and magenta. I shut the mach down and powered it back up and the error message cleared. The mach ran fine for a couple of days. Now the error flashed back up showing Insert drum cartridge black and cyan. This time the error will not clear. Tried resetting all the new drum units. The service mode shows all four new drums reset back to 1%. Any ideas? Thanks for any and all help.

Install newest software. If that dont fix it replace the itb assembly. This will take care of it. Drum detection on these machine is determined by transfer charging voltage. If itb is older,it will think no drum. Had many of these calls.Comment

Make sure u have the latest Firmware as posted

If you have replaced the drum units and still have this issue suspect a connection to the ITB unit.

a. Clean the Transfer H.V. PCB (HV2) Contacts.
b. Clean the Process Unit contacts to the main frame.

I had the same issue and if updated with latest firmware v66.02

I still get the insert black drum messages even with dcon ver 66.02. apparently it drum detection was supposed to be removed starting with 61.01 but this doesn't seem the be the case.Comment

old news below -----------but have see a few of these issues
The conductive bushing on the front side of the ITB assembly for the transfer roller becomes cracked.
This part cannot be ordered. Replace the ITB assembly. Part number FM2-5522-030.
ITB UNIT IS CHEAP

problem could be related to a broken, loose, or missing drive drum coupling.
In this case the drum drive coupling was dislodged from the black drum drive shaft. This prevented the drum from rotating and caused the machine to display that the drum was not installed.

Even with new itb's, drive and everything. I still get them. At least they're EOL now so it won't be a problem for much longer. It's the only thing that's been kicking my ass on the canon's.Comment

you must have service label or print it from service mode, then execute <dc-con clear> from service mode (level 1), after restarting maсhin restore all values from service label in service mode (levels 1 and 2)
