It is hard to explain the reason of your issue. I'll do my best to help you.
I guess that the problem is with tray number 1( the most used one). When the tray is pushed inside the machine, there is a part that will make the pick-up rollers fall down. In your case, the pick-up rollers with the paper sensors axis are not going down enough.
