    iR-C4080 color registration

    hello everyone

have a client with a machine, color registration was misaligning once a month - i'd reset laser units & perform quick gradation to correct

after 3 occurrences, i decided to remove & dismantle the IBT & clean it all up, cleaned the belt inside, cleaned all the rollers etc, cleaned the sensors assembly & i also installed a new IBT cleaning assy - when i put the IBT back in the machine & reset the laser units, the color registration was WAY OUT

4mm between black & cyan, then 3mm to magenta, then 3mm to yellow

tried resetting lasers (service mode 2,,, function,,, laser) all OK
tried 10 quick gradations,,, no change
tried full gradation, printed 1 chart, but would not read/scan it - kept telling me to place it correctly - the yellow registration was so far out, there was no lead edge blank on the yellow part of the gradation chart

printed out a network report & its registration was way out (trailing edge black border was right on the trailing edge of the page)

any pointers would be very much appreciated

    thanks in advance

Most of the copiers that we buy used have a color registration issue, either lasers lose there settings or transfer belt is stretched and causes serious registration issues. Depending on how old the belt is when you took it apart to clean and made things worst tells me your belt is no good also ck the rubber transfer drive rollers for cracks. Good Luck

I agree, they ITB belts can streech over time & slip.

Order a new belt, clean the itb rubber rollers VERY WELL.
Then do a DC con clear. If no joy do a p print then do a MN Cont clear

once the gradation calibration patches are off alignment > u will not be able to do your Auto Full Glass Gradations > issue needs to be repaired first

There many issues that cause reg issues on this model

            Re: iR-C4080 color registration

            thanks everyone for your replies

the IBT assy was replaced a few years ago, but has done less than 50k (machine about 250k old) - all the IBT rubber rollers are in very good condition - all gears are in good condition - everything cleaned to perfection - absolutely no belt slip

registration trouble is in paper travel direction only - sub scan

i can't imagine it's the lasers, as when i arrived i did the normal laser reset & quick calibration which corrected the minor color registration issue (0.1mm) - only after i did the IBT did things go awry & i checked by holding the belt still & turning the drive gear by hand, i could not get the belt to slip at all

            i'll reset Service mode (Level2) > COPIER > FUNCTION > CLEAR > REG-CLR & re-check the IBT assembly & seating & see how i go

if anything else comes to mind,, feel free to reply

            thanks again !

              update

              we'll i'll be

performed the resets & gradations, no change

removed & dismantled the IBT assy again & it looks like i didn't have the belt centered correctly, so the rubber strip on one side was riding the drive roller white spacer

fitted belt correctly & remounted IBT, reset everything, performed 3 quick gradation calibrations, 1 full calibration & fiery calibration

problem solved, machine working like a charm

thank you everyone for your assistance, it really is very much appreciated

special thanks to teckat who has been of massive benefit with all my lil 4080 problems - your input has been most beneficial every time

              Regards

                Note:
U can't turn the ITB by hand fast enough to simulate printer speed & check slippage or drift of belt.
