It is better to clean the optical section first, then tune the darkness by turning the Density Correction Dial clockwise or counterclockwise.

The handbook has three pages on this subject. I won't pretend that I remember it all. I recorded this tip:

Light copies using AE. Automatic Exposure is adjusted within handbook specs. Confirm that Canon OEM toner is installed. 1) Adjust lamp intensity. 2) Re-adjust AE to these specs: 1) Center the exposure dial VR107. Enter '38' in service mode, and press the Start key. The existing setting will flash. Enter new value using +/- keys. Press AE to store the new setting (between 0-99, higher setting = darker copies, lower setting = lighter copies).

      I hope this helps. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
