I have changed many units and it is very simple, I have even exchanged with the bh36. Are you going to change the unit or just the belt?

be careful of pinching wires during reassembly, this is the most common problem i see.

Replacing the whole scanner unit is pretty easy. Just make sure to route the ribbon cables through the appropriate ferrite cores and as mentioned above, be careful of pinched wires. I've done the swap a few times and it shouldn't take much more than an hour or so to remove the old one and put in the replacement.
