the guides in the the tray have likely shifted rearward.
put paper in landscape and see if it lines up with the size markers.
easy fix, loosen the screws and move the guides forward.
only other thing could be paper stuck behind the tray but its usually shifted gates.
We know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two.
    The medication helps though...

I checked this onsite yesterday but both trays look like they are fine. Also the help desk came back to me and suggested replacing the MFP board. I tried this but the fault still remains. This one is driving me mad now!

I've seen this before on the xx7 and xx8 series. The enduser slams the tray too hard, and all the paper tray centering adjusters shift to the rear. As a consequence the machine thinks the paper is about 1/4" wider than it really is. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
