284e scanning issues - firmware numbering scheme

    Hey,

I have a 284e (not c284e, just the b/w one) that I'm having issues with. We are having trouble configuring both scan to SMB and scan to email.

I captured the scan to SMB ethernet conversation, and it looks like the printer is trying to negotiate lanman 1.0 or NT LM 0.12, which are both SMB 1.0 authentication methods. Now, I know that this printer only supports SMB 2.0 in its SMB client with a firmware update, so I was thinking I would pursue this. I don't understand the KM firmware numbering schema well enough to determine if my firmware is new enough to support SMB 2.0

The firmwares currently installed on our printer:

    Code:

You're firmware is two years too old. (1-30-2015)

    fwversion.JPG

You need level GDBM1 (8-14-2017) or newer.

Super helpful, thank you. How does the numbering actually work? It seems so arbitrary

As educated IT you already guess it, you will need newer FW.

Sorry, wjurls beat me on that.

          Hi,

Yes your firmware is outdated to support SMB2 & most likely preventing your O365 account from sending.

See this release note from Konica Minolta.

Microsoft recommended the invalidation of SMB Ver1.0 in order to cope with the Ransomware (WannaCry) issues.

Whilst the newer 'IT5" A3 Office Products (7&8 Series) support SMBv2 as standard (and even SMBv3 is available) the older 4e Series and 4 Series products only supported SMBv1. However, support for SMBv2 on these older products is now available as follows:

That I couldn't tell you. Maybe one of the guru's here has some insight into the minds at KM software engineering. Anyway, all compatible firmware files will only be found in the "special firmware" tab. They quit updating the base firmware in Oct 2016.

Thanks guys. I spoke to the leasing agent and he said he's going to come and update the firmware tomorrow.

Here's an old tech bulletin explaining the fw numbering.

                  Hey,

Just an update: The leasing agent came and updated the firmware, and now we are able to scan to SMB. We are still unable to scan to email, and we are getting the same error as before. I verified the settings against the ones in use in the other copier I mentioned previously, and they're the same, but it's still throwing an error 535 when you try to scan to email.

I'm not too worried about figuring out why that's not working because we're able to scan to SMB now. The copier guy did mention at one point that Rogers LTE Rocket Hubs have known issues with outbound SMTP traffic, but I'm able to telnet to smtp.office365.com 587 so I can objectively say the gateway isn't blocking outbound traffic on that port.

If you guys have any suggestions or questions that's cool. The copier guy said he lurks this forum, and he really appreciates how responsive and clever you guys are.

                  Thanks for all your help!

After updating the firmware did you update the function version?

I'm not sure if he did. As I understand it that would be based on the setting of soft switch 25, and it has to be set to the function version appropriate for the firmware that was installed right?

I'm not on site right now, so I can't find out what firmware he ultimately ended up installing, but when I find out I will post it on here so we can figure out what value that soft switch needs to be set to.

I can confirm it says 7 in the device information menu.
