Customer has a C224e, when they are not using it to print or copy for 10-30 minutes, control panel freezes up and no prints. It also froze for me WHILE ENTERING SERVICE MODE and INVOKING LIFE MONITOR PRINTOUT! I had it freezing multiple times while entering in the touch panel. Unplugging the machine made it go away for about an hour, and right back to it. After I drove away, of course!
Was told this is known to happen if any of the drums are past their life, and 3 of 4 (C,Y,K) are 4-6 YEARS PAST their rated life! Although I can't see any aluminum core on any of the 4 three do look quite worn (I think it's internal arc from charger?) but print quality if fine (which is why they've never been replaced). I'm told drums have a sleep timer independent of low power/sleep timers. Magenta was replaced a few months ago but didn't cause any problem far as I know.
Customer was using front main power to reset, but I was able to UN-freeze control panel 5 times just by opening and closing front cover for about 2 seconds.
MUCH faster and easier on the machine and patience than full power cycle!
Just wanted to post this since most lock-up solutions suggest formatting HDD, panel firmware update, etc. and no mention of checking your drum life first!
I'll post a follow up if replacing the old drums does NOT fix it!
