    W10, USB-printer install

Customer has a computer with W10. His old USB-printer broke down, so he wants to install a new printer I supplied to him. When attaching the USB cable coming from the printer to the computer, it shows a reaction in the sys-tray, but installing is not taking place.

When I try a manual install, everything is fine until it comes to a window asking for the admin pass word. The customer lost this admin password and there is no administrator any more available.

Is there a workaround for such situations? Any help please?

first id just change the admin password, its not hard especially when you already have a logon.
if they are restricted on their own computer then either print from one they are or save to a PDF and print it from a flash drive.
its unacceptable to own a computer you cant modify to the least of all adding a printer.

We know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two.
    The medication helps though...

I hate to admit this but.... I drive around with a WinPE live "cd" (it's really a flash drive) so that I can reset passwords on computers that customers have lost the passwords to. It is a little harder on macOS but that's a story for another day....

I completely agree with Synthohol last statement about owning a computer and not being able to even add a printer.

OK, but how? Complicated procedure? 😎

Get the files you need to create WinPE media
          1. Download and install both the Windows ADK and the Windows PE Add-on. When you install the ADK choose, at minimum, the Deployment Tools feature.
          2. After you've downloaded and installed the ADK and Windows PE add-on, you can create bootable Windows PE media.
          3. see #4

          5. good luck!

I'm assuming the forum rules mention posting links to warez or hacking items so I'll leave you to the Google-fu to find them all.

Anything with Bitlocker turned on (such as some new Windows 11 PCs) will prevent you from doing this but generally there are a few methods:It would be worth looking into one of the Ventoy based "live CD" sets. Medicat is a popular one. It has every tool you could ever want to work with PCs. It's basically the Hiren's Boot CD for 2020+.
