[Misc] BH c224e vs 454e for small office

    Hi,
I need a reliable MFP for a small office (print volume 25k per year, 20k scans per year). I found two local BH, a 454e with 35k total meter and a c224e with 90k total meter, both are priced similarly around $600. I don't need color necessarily. Reliability is key, and the ADF has to work well!
Please let me know your thoughts re one vs the other.
    Thank you!

Either of these models are reliable ... and a good choice. And reasonable at $600. But be prepared to put some money in them when they arrive. At $600 there will be things to fix. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

For that ridiculous price and extremely low counters I would get both
Very good machines. Check if they have dual scan DF, faster and reliable scanning.

Make prints of these documents & scan them back to this post. I can offer better information then:

I use a lot of 454e, I have one on a inmigration lawyer, I installed it at 35k and replaced it at 570k with another 454e. They did around 30k prints a month, only had to replace the feed tires, one fuser and do periodic cleaning. The document feeder are great.

I am used to taskalfa 420i/530i and KM 5050/4050, and the Minoltas are much more reliable and easier to mantain.

Minus speed they're essentially the same machine with the same (few) problems/reliability, and besides the fuser they use the same consumables. Document feeders are both the DF701, same for all the 4 series up to 554.

Reliability is the same, really its just down to 224 being color and 454 being twice as fast when printing. Scanning is the same for both.

Some technical, the color 4 series has some issues with the cyan devs, and both have occasional fuser issues regarding noise. Those will likely be your two largest potential costs over the lifetime, but you might not have to do either, rare to do both.
Upkeep for a small office is just the standard drums and tires. 4 series drums last quite a while although they're rated for roughly 120k. Tires go anywhere from 50-100k or 120-250k depending on what your servicer uses. Those will be the (roughly) the same for both machines (faster machines are rated slightly less)

                The C224e is a 22 page a minute colour machine & the 454e is a mono model @ 34 PPM.

Unless you left off the 'c' I would go for the C454e faster model & lower count.

                  454e is 45 PPM not 34.

I'd go with the 454e. Color drums will add to your total cost of ownership and as said before you will probably run in to the cyan DV issue which is costly as well. We used to have a bunch of 454e machines in the field and they gave us very little issues. You can still scan in color and the doc feeds are very reliable too.

                      Sorry that was a typo!

I figured but just wanted to clarify for the OP in case they were unaware.
