Konica Minolta C458 Color Drum Issue

8 series Drums have a tendency to soil the sponge roller that cleans the primary charge roller when printing a lot of prints (like a 1000 or more) with a normal 1 inch solid blue banner at the top of the copy. Once that sponge roller is soiled with a blue band, the cyan drum must be replaced as cleaning the sponge roller does not seem to resolve the issue. We only use oem toner and drums. All parts are current, none overdue. Most recent FW installed.

I adjusted the Cyan TCR down to -2 but did not stop the cyan drum from failing early when printing large amounts of copies with a blue banner. Normal printing without a blue banner does not cause the cyan drum to soil the sponge roller or fail early due to blue streaks or blue stripes , regardless of extremely large copy runs. Apparently, the drum cleaning cannot keep up with large runs of a portion of the document with a solid color banner. Printing docs with a banner causes no issues with drum life if it done once in a while, only on large consistant runs.

    Any suggestions apppreciated.

Agree that once the cleaner go bad, they are never the same no matter how well you clean them.
Have them run the jobs landscape. This will move the blue banner around the drum so it does not hit the exact same spot.

The DR313YMC drums have been modified to resolve this issue.

They have done away with the sponge roller.

There are also 'long life' black drums available.

Understood, problem is we have a ton of the old oem dr313 style on the shelf. When they are used up, I will switch to the new ones. I'm a bit afraid to try removing the sponge roller on the old style oem ones and damaging them. Appreciate much the reply, thank you.

Try removing the sponge roller once the issue occurs should get you some more life, but don't risk it when they are new.

My thoughts exactly, you read my mind............

I also liked mojorolla the wolf's idea to do landscape in a case that a large run of solid banners at the top of the print exacerbates the failure. I'll see if that makes the drums last longer.

Just so I understand: You're not saying the DR315 drums have any relation to the color banding issue?
