    Updating Fiery

Is it better to update a Fiery or not if there are no known issues? In the past KM advised against it as it causes more problems.

My latest Fiery seems to give all kinds of warnings and request to update. I feel like it's their way to make more money by causing more problems.

We know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two.

          Re: Updating Fiery

10-20 years ago KM advised against updating the fiery as it wasn't necessary in their eyes. It felt as if Fiery didn't test them properly before releasing in that era. I updated mine recently due to annoying reminders from fiery. The problem is it keeps finding new updates/reminders every few weeks/month. I get super scared as I vaguely remember bricking an old fiery when it was being updated on an old KM cf-2002. KM took it back to be replaced. I opted out of a service contract and my fiery is very expensive even used. It really irritates me how fiery's dont work between sister models built on same tech.

Office Fiery..almost never, production Fierys, patches as needed, MS updates almost never. Most of the time it's due to a workstation upgrade. Production customers use and understand CWS and the update process through here is pretty straight forward. E

If you must try, I suggest putting in a new hard drive and load the system software from scratch.
Set the old drive aside in an anti static bag in case the SHTF and you need to re-install it.

I would only do it if the tech pub that comes with the update made sense for the environment. Its been awhile since I studied them but if there are no language problems then....why? Be proactive for language problems? Then the shop and customer need to agree on the plan.
I have used Canon Imagerunner parts for sale. Most are floor model Color and / Advances Imagerunner with some 3025 3235 parts. Several intact machines being parted.

                    Re: Updating Fiery

A lot of times Fieries throw red flags on security audits.

I've had more than one or two IT admins freak out about that.

While part of that may be a risk they have to accept if they want it to work, there is no point in pushing it to extremes.

Seeing how most MS patches are security related, it's a wise move to do as much as you can to at least attempt to minimize the risk.

Makes me miss the old days when Fieries were Linux or UNIX based.

TOO LATE - I BROKE IT! Now having a nightmare trying to fix it. Not sure what the issue is. When I print on larger stock/paper it comes out all weird.
