    C284e User Authentication

Never seen this before. Must have some high security or something?

I tried turning off in admin mode but it is grayed out. Looking on web interface page it shows "User Authentication On (External Server)"

Also when powering on machine the screen has message "preparing to connect to external server, please wait" and 3 boxes with authentication device & access basic screen boxes highlighted.

I've looked everywhere and cannot find how to turn it off! What did I miss?

    Thanks for the help

    The medication helps though...

Wish it was that simple but you must of missed in my OP that it is "grayed out" in admin mode and can't be changed.

Sorry for small pics. Taken with phone.

            Re: C284e User Authentication

OK, just called the customer and had them go into billing / management setting and they sent me attached pic (sorry again for small pic). I compared to a "4" series in shop and this screen is completely different with no tab to "unset"

Like I mentioned in OP there must be some high security setting. I've turned off many auth settings with lease returned machines and have never seen this?

            Any other ideas appreciated.....

            Thanks in advance

Go into service mode and check your authentication device settings. If it is or was on CARD 3, then my guess is you bought this used and it has been CAC/PIV'd. If so save us some trouble and search the site for how to get rid of this. E

                Check SW 12
                Addition of the authentication device
Settings(Enabled/Disabled) of Card authentication device for PKI(Card3)
                DipSw No.12 (bit 1)
                0x00 : Disabled (default)
                0x02 : Enabled (Added Card3 key)

Ha-ha, what do you mean save us some trouble? I always search this site before posting. Only thing I could find was the general stuff about turning off in admin mode which I already know about and grayed out. This is why I posted my question. Yes message on screen does mention card 3 and yes machine was a used machine. Not sure if what "and" posted after your post is the solution but if not can I trouble you for the solution?

                  Thanks

                    And is correct.
When using the authentication device including AU-102 and AU-201, the loadable device driver needs to be installed.• I.12.15.29 Driver InstallE.1.3.1.(3) IC card information setting procedures
Card Uses IC card authentication system (AU-201/SCL-010/AU-201H/AU-202H/YSoft card reader/ OMNIKEY 5427CK (AU-205H))
Body Uses biometrics (finger vein) authentication system (AU-102)
Card 3 Uses IC card authentication device for PKI card system
                    • When selecting [Body], set a film timeout interval, capture trial time and authentication trial time.• When selecting [Card], a response timeout interval is displayed. (The interval is unchangeable.)• [Card 3] will be displayed only when the following setting shows that switch No.12 is set to [00000010] at Bit assignment/[02] at HEXassignment.[Service Mode] -> [System 2] -> [Software Switch Setting]

just my suggestion, get a printout of bit switches from another c284e and what i do (faster than the tool)is just put 1 page on top of another hold it up to the lightand look for different bits engaged.
if\when you find them, look them up in the manual before you just assume they ALL should match.
also delete the driver for the card reader if its still there.
                    best luck!!

i tried a couple times to use the tool but this was is much faster than even booting up my laptop.
                        hope you find something simple.

Using a tool with already known good working machine S1 file as target vs offending machine S1 is great 😃
However I know most of the switches that are different and why but that just takes few of them to compare and you get used to it.

Soft sw 12 worked !!! Was able to go into mgt settings and "unset" then into admin mode and turn off authentication. All good now!

1st time I saw an off lease machine with card 3, and hope the last

                            Thanks again to everyone
