Hello!
After a period of 6 months in which we did not use our km c284e, today we needed it. Unfortunately, we have an almost continuous paper jam error (in fact it is not jammed). More precisely, after the first page printed from tray 3 (tray of 2500 sheets), it shows us the error 16-01 on tray 3. If I open the side and tray no. 3, it prints the first sheet, then it gets stuck again. I managed to accidentally print several sheets (4-5) but basically after the first sheet the paper jam appears.
Before pulling it to the right (6 months) I was only printing from tray 3 and I had no such blockages. From another tray we do not have such problems.
We still haven't managed to figure it out after 6 hours..if anyone has any ideas what else to try, we'd be grateful.

There's a gray roller right at the area by tray 2, this roller is known to get slick or hard. There's actually a bulletin recommending replacing this roller but you can clean it with alcohol and a scotchbrite. Give that a try.

Attached is a bulletin addressing the 16-01 code. But I've seen more issues with the large capacity tray from the rear lift cable coming off pulley. Remove tray and look at rear lift wire and make sure it didn't come off the lower pulley

I solved it, but I don't know why.
I took out tray 3 and opened the back to look at the thread to make sure it hadn't come off the pulley. It didn't come out, I lifted the plate that raised the sheets several times by manually rotating it from the back.
Seeing that everything seems fine, I put the tray back and it seems that at the moment it doesn't have any kind of problem.

You're not the only one. I can't tell you how many times a machine didn't work, I walked up to it, touch it, and boom, whatever the problem was, it is no longer... Crazy!

Funny just today I went out to service a Biz 224e for ADF jamming. I get there and run 100 pages through feeder and no jams. Go into service mode and look at jam history and several pages of "66" codes. Rollers were like new but cleaned anyway after blowing feeder out with canned air. Reset jam counters, ran another 100 no jams. Out the door I went with the girls in office saying shit like he has the magic touch, he's blessed, etc etc Ha-ha
Of course I didn't charge them. My wife gets pissed when I tell her I didn't charge a customer but I believe it comes back in other ways. Got back to office and sold 3 machines!

I don't feel comfortable in such situations. I know it will bite me back sooner or later.

I hear you and especially when the jam history show that many jams. But what else can you do if rollers look new and after running hundreds of pages, interview customer for more info, etc etc. and machine works great?

2 of the worse calls for a tech is for bad print quality & jamming but when you get there can't get it to jam and print quality looks fine. All us techs would rather have a hard failure and know it's fixed after we service it!

After saying that the machine was not in use for 6 months my first thought was that dust settled on the roller or even worst the paper on the top of the stack.
He could have cleaned the rollers somehow. Hope the OP used fresh paper.

Yea it makes me uneasy if I can't pinpoint the problem. I don't even test for jams when I get to site. I check the counters and error logs first and then clean the entire paper path giving attention to the areas were the jams was recorded like removing the paper feed units for J1101 J1201... If J2002 check door latches, J3003 the registration, J3205 the exit unit. I don't like removing jams from machines.

Not sure. It happens a lot more frequently than I'd have ever imagined. Open and close a few things, look at different areas to try and determine what the cause might be and it just magically works afterwards. Really didn't do anything to it except look at it and move a few things around. 90% of the time the problem never comes back??
