    Let's play "Spot the screw up"

    I won't give too much information because I don't want to put anyone on blast. Here's the basic setup:

    The machine is a bizhub 454e. Customer reported the adf was jamming. The machine is old, and has never been serviced, but it's also far, far from us. So we decided we would get a contractor to go change the pick rollers, the feed roller, and the sep roller, as well and give the adf a good cleaning. He couldn't figure out how to put the assembly back together after he put the new rollers on, so we sent another assembly up there with fresh rollers. He installed it, and shortly after he left, the adf started jamming and multifeeding like crazy, and started making a strange noise. We ended up getting a different company to go out and check it out, and they couldn't figure out what was wrong, but they did send a picture at my request. This is the picture. Can you spot where the contractor royally screwed up?

    Be careful who you pay a hefty fee to do a remedial job was the moral of the story for us.

    The white bushing is in wrong. The clip belongs on other side of bushing after it's inserted into frame.

        ha-ha. I've done those rollers so many times I could do it in my sleep! Not sure how a "technician" doesn't lay parts out in order they were disassembled. There is no excuse especially with phones that take pictures! You can't have the title of a technician if you can't take something apart "yourself" and put it back together. It's a different story if someone takes it apart and asks you to put it back together (most of us have had customers do this trying to repair their machine to save money)

        Brings me back to something I posted about on this forum a few times, how the new breed of techs are really IT guys converted to technicians. Most are very smart but no mechanical or troubleshooting skills!

                  that roller doesnt even look like it was changed so why even take it out . just clean it left installed

                      I was careful with my post and said "Most" are very smart but no mechanical or troubleshooting skills! Of course there are good techs like you who were IT first.

                      "Most" big companies now a days will only hire IT people and try to make them copier techs. Some are able to convert but many do not! Chances are if you go to school for IT you don't want to get hands dirty working on copiers! Old school techs are hard to find......

                        We use that job as a kind of test for new techs, to see if they're ready to solo. If you can figure that one out reliably you should do ok with almost anything else.

                          I actually sent the picture to a fairly new hire here at my office to see if he could find the issue. He did, which made me feel good, because this is his first job in the field, and I've been training him.
