[Misc] SMB Scanning, First Page Fails

    hello all,
we have a new customer that we setup with SMB, scanning locally to a folder on each pc, on a C250i.
everything worked well for the first week but now the customer called to say that the scanning fails on the first attempt but works on fine on the second try.
this is for all users in a small office.
its the first time we have encountered this issue with SMB scanning on konica machines.

I'm curious if anyone else has come across this issue?
we've passed the issue onto their IT company but i don't hold out much hope with them.

In job list you should see network error code. Post the number here.

The very 1st thing I would look at is the time settings..If it's not accurate it can cause issues that leave you digging down rabbit holes left and right. Check your time zone as well. If time is accurate check for server connect or login failures and report the associated code.

Sounds like a Name Resolution problem. Do they have a proper router set as the DNS address or what.

Are you using IP address? If not try it for a test.

Check if some antivirus program isn't blocking communication. Also did you tried with IP address of host as was suggested.

Make certain the machine has DNS Default Domain Name configured, and DNS servers are input.

Here are some tips for this particular error..I fail to see how you are getting 1st page failure followed by successful scans..In every case I've ever seen it works or does not work. E

                    Error Code 16711703
                    • Check if the user has a 3rd party Firewall / Antivirus that is managing the security policy and test by disabling temporarily and scanning again. Note that the firewall may also prevent the MFP from Pinging the workstation by IP/Hostname.
                    • The network type was set to public instead of private. Switch to private on Windows 10 as SMB over public is no longer allowed. Also watch out for antivirus automatically switching networks back to public as has happened with Avast in the past. Antivirus settings should have an option to be able to adjust from public to private network.
                    • Scanning works by IP address but not hostname. Customer's local router does not provide dns, but their isp's dns replies to the nslookup request with a valid, public ip address for the computer. As the copier gets a valid answer, it tries to contact the pc via that address, and the traffic is rejected as it is leaving the local network. Fix: Swap the customer's isp's dns server info out for a public dns server (google, etc) that won't be able to tell the mfd where to find the pc. The MFD will fall back to the LLMNR protocol (make sure its enabled on the tcp/ip settings page), scanning will work at that point.
                    • In order to benefit from LLMNR, you need to enable Network Discovery on all nodes on the local subnet. Network Discovery can be turned on in these scenarios by going to the Control Panel and double clicking Network and Sharing Center. Then, under Sharing and Discovery, select Network Discovery. Click the option Turn on Network Discovery and click Apply. You will be prompted to accept the associated security risk of being discoverable on a public network. After enabling Network Discovery on each host, they will respond to LLMNR requests and you will be able to resolve the IP of computers by single label name.
                    • The address book destination 'name' field having a space in it would give us the error. Removing the space and using just alphanumerics fixed the issue, seems like a bug with this particular model but it could be an issue with others. Example: "Jons Scans" or "Jons-Scans" would not work but "JonsScans
