    Word ignoring driver settings

Scenario - customer receives documents to print, opens them in word and tries to print them using the driver settings but Microsoft word prints them using the page setup and things print from the wrong cassettes.

Is there a way to force word to use the driver settings rather than the page setup?

Make sure "Let the app change my printing preferences" isn't ticked on.

I never found a solution for this. Especially if the customer works with old saved templates or he gets the Word files from outside.
You have to correct the page setup first and then save it. The other thing is the default settings from normal.dot .

If anyone knows of another solution, I would also be interested.

Often if a customer is printer directly from a web browser and does not use the printer dialogue option, the web browser settings will take command of the printer.

          Printing works on a hierarchy:
          1. Software
          2. Print driver settings
          3. Machine settings

One of the things I do in training class is use a Word file that is designed to only print from tray 4. The file settings trump the driver settings and causes a wonderful opportunity to learn about the intricacies of printing.

Open the file in Word, go to Options, Advanced then scroll down to Print. See example below:

Hope you do not mind me adding commentary to your excellent summary. Follow the command data.

Funny that the machine is at the bottom of the list, has the least control, but always gets blamed first.

Word has a nasty habit of storing the 'last used printer' settings with the document. This includes templates.
If it was authored by someone with a different printer set-up then that's what gets saved.

Once printed, you can re-save the document and it should reflect your printer's options now.

                Re: Word ignoring driver settings

printing from Word can be frustrating, its annoying when printing with "letters and envelopes" it wants to use the default printer with plain paper settings that cant be adjusted so i create a printer called envelope and set the printing defaults to bypass and c10 envelope and users can change printers faster than trying to change the envelope settings from default in the app.
                hope i explained it right.
