Storage board (SSD) aftermarket i series

    Hi everyone!
I'm trying to understand if there is a memory that can be purchased online to replace the original KM ones for the i series models.
I've tried a few brands but the machine always returns N.G. when booting with the FW update.
I also tried to clone the contents of an original SSD onto a blank SSD but without success.
Is there any brand that might work?
    Thank you!

Re: Storage board (SSD) aftermarket i series

Konica now seems to use M.2 NVMe M-key (PCIe, not SATA) drives. The ones I've seen from Konica are Kioxia and Phison drives. Early machines had B+M key M.2 SSDs (idk if these were PCIe 2x or SATA sorry) but with the right boot ROM it can use the M-key drives. Depending on what SSD you have you may also need to update the boot ROM in the copier. What Konica calls "the 112 layer storage board" is a Kioxia M.2 M-key NVMe drive. That drive requires the latest boot ROM. In theory any NVMe M-key PCIe SSD should work but I haven't been able to test it. So I can't say for sure. Make sure it's at least 256Gb in size if you are willing to experiment.

    To update the boot ROM:

Don't attempt to clone partitions or clone disks, that will cause problems. Just make sure the SSD has no partitions. Then follow the storage board replacement instructions in the service manual. Look in section F Disassembly/Reassembly then the model, then boards. Look for Storage Board (STRGB) to find the section.

If you do decide to experiment let me know what you find. We are looking for cheaper alternatives than the Konica provided drives for the units with expired warranties that we service.
