I agree on the registration clutch, had this before.

these machines are only rated for about 800k or so and the registration unit gets very tired around that time with oval worn bushings causing skewed feed and also the clutch starts to fail. It also happens prematurely in dusty environments.

If its a high volume machine i would just replace the entire registration unit as they aren't expensive anyway.

PS, i prefer working on cars to photocopiers, at least when you rebuild an automatic transmission most parts are made of metal and there are no "red painted screws" that are forbidden to touch.

How about something really simple, like finisher output set to "output face up", instead of "output face down"?

I have a large customer in which all the endusers need to change settings randomly, perhaps just to test my troubleshooting technique ... or maybe just because they're stupid and hope that a random selection will be an improvement.

That has become my first troubleshooting step: 1) find the changed setting, and return to default. =^..^=

Oops! Mis-read your first post. Disregard the response. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

        Hi all,

I changed the registration unit as suggested and all sorted thanks again for all the input.
One little thing though and this happened to me early in the week also, today when I put it back together the paper pick up in tray two stopped working. I'm thinking its my fat hands damaging a sensor in the paper pick up as changing the early one fixed it, anyway the user isn't bothered about tray two but I will fix it one day.

Thanks again for all your help Paul.

Perhaps, but it depends on how large is the customer really is. For instance, if the customer's fingers are too pudgy to change the settings, you might have your answer

            Hi again,

I had a similar problem with a c353 so from what I learnt here I change the vertical transport section and it fixed the duplex position on the second side just like the C252. Now the customer is telling me it prints duplex fine for one print but if you print it more than once it prints the second side out of alignment, before I go and have a look do you have any ideas?

            Thanks Paul.
