    Taskalpha 3500i SMB Scan troubles

Peer to peer network with copy, print, fax and scan to email working fine. Customer has been using SMB scan to pc for 6 months with no troubles, until recently.
Customer is using Kaspersky antivirus and firewall...and we cannot get the host name of the receiving computer to reconcile with the copier. if the ip address is used, the scan to folder at the pc has not trouble at all. code for the connection error is 2203. IT refuses to believe it is within firewall and pc permissions and is insisting it is a firmware update that is required.

I tested my laptop with a machine at my office with settings and it worked flawlessly, then tested laptop on customers network with failure. Kyocera tech support recommended a test with just laptop connected to copier(no customer network involved) to test smb scan. Can anyone help?? I was told the NetBIOS Primary directory was not reading right for some reason, that is why the host name isnot working, but the IP address will. AAARRGGG!!

If the hostname doesn't work, it's the domain name server (DNS) that isn't doing it's job. Other than fixing the DNS, the only thing you can do is select the IP address directly in the addressbook entry.

You should be able to walk up to any PC on the network, open a command prompt window, and type in: ping (followed buy the hostname of the server) -t
    then press Enter
If it does not resolve to an IP address, then DNS is not working, and it's not your job to fix it.

You might also open a new command prompt window and type: ipconfig/all
    then Enter
In the list of entries you will find a value for DNS1 and possibly a DNS2. Make sure these values match the ones entered in the MFP's network settings. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I did check the dns..it did appear to be correct in the copier. I did not ping it. At one point while disabling the firewall/antivirus, the pc notified me there were two networks connected. I did not understand that at all.

This happens often on large networks. In some remote corner of the office, without permission from IT, somebody installs a router instead of a switch. As a result, when a new PC appears on the network the two routers compete to assign an address: who is faster? Usually in this situation there are two different IP ranges, so some PC's can talk to some printers, and some cannot, depending on which IP range it got assigned.

Again this also is not your problem to fix. =^..^=

Only an internal DNS will resolve the hostname on the LAN. If you were using Google's DNS 8.8.8.8, it can resolve the hostname inside their network.
          Hope that helps !

You'll have your normal LAN and possibly a Modem/Router WiFi network.

+1 DNS is the culprit. IP works, therefore it works. Happens all the time.

After days spent with IT saying it was the copier failing, today the entire network failed. DNS bad..as you have said. I wasted 4 days of my time, saying network network network. Thanks for all the help.

I always try to static the IP on the MFP...the IP address is always a good fallback to SMB hostname.

I have had instances where the hostname would absolutely not work and only the IP address in the SMB path would work!
