    SMB Scanning and Norton 360

    Hi Folks

I am setting up a 3011i for SMB scanning , problem is Norton 360 is blocking the connection (error 1101) . Disabling Norton on the target P.C. ( not a server) allows the scans through...So my question is..Does anybody know exactly how to modify Norton to allow SMB scans through. Tech support tried but was unable to resolve the problem.

    Thanks much.

I would also explain to the customer they dont need to waste their money on antivirus software, Windows has built in antivirus security software.

I Agree, but this came "free" with the ISP.

yeah these can be a nightmare. try allowing the incoming internet connection via ip. works for me although I cant tell you exactly where to do anymore.

Please go to the Network Security Map in the settings of Norton 360 and make sure that your printer is added as a device and set as Full Trust.

Usually for Norton, there is a check box in the exceptions for file and print sharing. If you check that box and save the settings it will usually allow SMB scanning. Occasionally you will have to reboot the PC after making the change.

The 1101 code indicates the machine cannot find the host. If you are using the host name, Norton by default blocks network discovery, hence blocking the machine from finding the PC. You can either open up network discovery in Norton for private networks or if in a domain for that or make an exception in the rules.

Let me know what resolves this for you, please. My solution was either to remove it or have the client call their IT dept.
