    [Error Code] Copying money ?

Odd service call today. Customer said message on display said "cannot scan this original , Turn copier off." It would not do any functions at all. They had been scanning from the glass, not the adf.
When I arrived, I verified the message and simply rebooted the machine and all was back to normal. No errors in event log. Before I left, a lady told me they had tried to copy a $20 to go with a cash reciept for proof of payment.
I did'nt find anything wrong with the machine. Anyone experience something like this.?. Taskalfa 4551ci

    Re: Copying money ?

The days of copying any form of currency are gone. All the manufacturers that I work on can recognize stocks, bonds, currency etc, and either severely distort the image or error out. This goes back perhaps 10 years, maybe more. Where have you been? It started with digital equipment.

You cannot even scan monetary instruments. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Didn't mean to mislead. Definately know about all that. I was just curious about the exact message "cannot scan this original " specific to this machine series.

I've only ever encountered the "Cannot scan this original" message with originals with this protection on it, although that isn't to say that Kyoceras are capable of other detection methods. I've had some customers swear up and down they were only scanning "regular paper" but after sifting through a stack, there will be a birth certificate or marriage license somewhere in there. The constellation is fairly ubiquitous now.

You can still copy/scan these originals in B/W or by reduction/enlargement of some degree.

What Wragsdale said..You can't scan ANY document with security features , such as a hologram in full color...B/W is OK.....Just remember the default for scanning is full color.

This will also happen with some checks, passports, birth/death certificates, etc...

I always tell my customers to scan/copy it in black&white. If that doesn't work, try also reducing or enlarging it by 60%. Generally the black and white trick works and they don't need to reduce or enlarge it.

The reason things like this can't be copied/scanned in color is due to a pattern of yellow dots somewhere on it which tells the copier this can't be copied/scanned.
