    Fan on KM-4035

Anyone tell me how deep the fan is behind here? My dealer says the fan is going bad, can't find parts and probably need to replace the machine.

The KM-4035 is the best printer/copier I have ever used, hands down. I'd like to fix the fan if possible.

so are you an end user?

your profile info is missing please fill it out.

put in a request for the fan here---> https://www.copytechnet.com/forums/f...ade-or-wanted/

there are multiple fans in copiers .. you will have to find out which one is messing up

more than likely it is clogged with crap.. pull the back cover find out which one isn't turning

Nothing lasts forever 4035 was a great machine. Fans used are PC type cooling fans. You can replace it with a new Kyocera or there's plenty of used one's out there if you don't need color.

I guess end user, but I support the end users so not sure where that puts me.

I feel certain it's something like an 80mm case fan. I've pulled off all the typical panels, but it's deeper than that - if I go any further it'll probably be to the point of no return.

I guess I'll just replace, stinks to replace a working device b/c the fan is making noise.

I think the dealer would rather me replace it, or lease something new

of course they want to lease you a new one... do you really want to do that tho?

most fans are easy to replace.

Absolutely not, especially when I could buy an 80mm case fan off ebay and have this thing run for another couple hundred thousand prints. Let me request the service manual and go from there.

Gotta wait 15 days before I can request the manual.

                    Thanks everyone!

Could it be item #8 or item #9?

Most of these fans are 24vdc 80mm x 80mm fans. The ONLY difference you may discover is a different connector. It's a simple task to splice on the original mating connector if the specifications are the same.

This machine does not have a diagnostic mode to test fans, but the screwdriver-handle-to-the-ear method is surprisingly effective for isolating the source of the noise. If you still can't find a replacement fan let me know. =^..^=

I'm a big fan of the screwdriver to ear method for isolating a noise. It will also work on your car...which is where I learned about it. You can also use the hose-to-ear method if you're feeling adventurous.

I'm definitely thinking it's #8 or #9, that's right where the sound is coming from, but it doesn't appear that any of the plates come off easy from the screws.

Splicing with an 80mm x 80mm fan is exactly what I was thinking, I have a soldering iron, heat shrink, and heat gun. Do you think they would like one of those LED fans, lol?!

CFM3 can be accessed like this (see attachment)
CFM2 is in the center of the back cover. Once the cover is off, it should be clearly visible. Just make sure that the machine is completely off before disconnecting any connectors.
