KM-4800w - Operation Panel Display issue

    Hi

The operation panel display of our Kyocera KM-4800w has suddenly stopped working, the backlight comes on but no display is shown. We did not make any changes or adjustments to the machine, it simply did not work when it was turned on one morning.

We found a thread from 2015 which describes the same issue (https://www.copytechnet.com/forums/k...o-display.html). The OP of that thread seemed to find a resolution which required jumping pins on the motherboard, but the process they followed has not been described completely.

Has anyone come across this issue more recently who could help?

    Thanks!

Are still able to print to it or are all functions not working?

If this is the Kip re-badge, we discovered that a failed CPU fan in the print server allows the CPU to overheat. The CPU shuts down, then cools off. When you show up and re-start the print server it works again for the next day or maybe two, then shuts down again. I was unable to get the exact same fan, but located a similar 12vdc PC fan and installed it in place of the original. It also caused strange display issues: changing background colors, distorted display. The machine lasted another year before the print server died, and the machine was replaced. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Hi Copierstud, thanks for your reply, none of the functions are working... The unit powers on (fans running etc) and the display lights up but is blank white. It is visible on our network and we can send prints to it but they just sit in the queue.

Hi blackcat4866, thanks for your reply too. Not sure if our machine is a Kip re-badge. It isn't printing at all at the moment, even after having been off for the night when started in the morning the problem is immediate. The fans are running the whole time it is on, just that the display does not work properly.

All the fans? Even the fans inside the print server CPU case?

blackcat4866 thank you for prompting me to double-check and you're right, the fan on the back of the print server case is actually not running (I was deceived into thinking it was by another fan nearby)...

thanks again for your help. Looks like we'll have to surrender and try to find local service tech to come take a look.

if its a KM model it would be better to replace the machine. by the time you pay a tech. and he informs you that parts are no longer available. go with a new machine.
