[Misc] 3253 Waste Toner hopper grinding

    Howdy folks,

I got a 3253 that was making a grindy noise. The waste toner bottle is not turning. There is nothing wrong with the drive, i wedged my long nozzle on my vacuum onto the gear and got the motor to turn on and its got lots of drive. I did notice on the bottle, the little grey claw that is part of the shutter looks slightly deformed. I pulled the shutter all the way open and inserted the bottle and now it's happy. No more noise and you can't spin the bottle by hand anymore. Im playing with my waste toner unit i have on the shelf and the only thing i can replicate on that one is if i push the bottle away from the gear just slightly i can make it skip.

When i pull the shutter all the way open and then install / remove the bottle, the shutter is not closed all the way. Im guessing that little assembly that engages the bottle to open the shutter is dicked up some how.

Machines low volume with a year to go, im tempted to just leave it and swap the bottles as needed.

Any body else seen this? I really don't want to swap that unit out ?

We have had the housing around the waste bottle separate, so we wrap a long zip tie around it and yank until it clicks back in place. Otherwise, the waste idea on the 52/53 series is garbage. Backing up all the time, the drive section of it needs bearings with beefy gears. But noooooo, they suck.

With the waste container out remove drawer 2. Reach in with your right hand and thump the sheet metal on the left side to rattle the WTB. It should pop back together and resume turning again.

I ran into this last month.
Here is the part I replaced: 302L794023 PARTS BOX WASTE L ASSY SP It's located behind the color drive assembly. Also, on the left rear of the machine with the back panels removed, you cans see where the waste bottle connects to this "PARTS BOX WASTE L ASSY". Be sure to remove the waste bottle and look where the bottle connects. I found a foam pad blocking the waste bottle. So, after replacing the bad part I still had to go back because of the foam pad blocking the exit/entrance to the waste bottle.

The part number listed was used on a 5052ci but you can use it as reference for you 3253ci.

indeed change parts waste box, but also check the waste evacuation from the dk and dev, most likely also blocked. this is driven by the feed drive(if the gear is not out of position,if necessary also change), check also the cleaning of the transfer belt, if necessary replace.
don't forget to initialize the wtb in sim. have fun
