We have a m3550idn that will not update the firmware, we keep getting, OPT error 0301. This firmware works well on the 3540idn, but errors on the 3550idn. There is nothing added to the 350idn as far as security kits or any other options, it's just a basic machine, not connected to the network either. I believe these machines take the same firmware if I am correct.

Delete the ' ES_SKIP_ON ' file from the USB then try the update again.Let us eat, drink, and be merry, because tomorrow we may die!

Re: m3550idn firmware issue
However this is generally the fix for for a 'no-boot situation' where MAIN is corrupt.
Your OPT (language) firmware files go on the HDD/SD. If there is one installed, format and/or replace-remove and try again.
The 0301 (file not found) may be due to a bad FW download, try the DL again.
Firmware instructions in the Service Manual have been moved from their own section into the PWB's section.
Code has been seen several times on different models, resolution is generally HDD related but for this unit if all else fails try Control PWB replacement"Being ignorant is not so much a shame, as being unwilling to learn" - Benjamin Franklin

Not really, you rename the DL-CTRL.2NM file to KM-EMRG.2NM and this will handle the SKIP operation. ES_SKIP is no longer seen direclty in firmware files for this model.

Re: m3550idn firmware issue
Wait, is that the Turbo? No one uses turbo so I didn't recognize it. So you are basically saying defeat the turbo skip rather than DL the full FW? That confused me as usually we only mod FW for recovery so I was pointing out the recovery procedure.
Turbo was introduced when FW was FIFO, it is now multi-threaded so Turbo gains little in speed.
Just trying to follow your logic here as how this addresses the write error of File not Found. Have you seen it to be a skip procedure error?
That does look like the latest 3/20 pkg v7.007
Latest SM procedure is not for skip file but for DL-CTRL procedure which was the original pre-skip methodology which is to extract ONLY the MAIN DL-CTRL file, rename it, and load it individually followed by full FW update on next reboot.
Again this procedure, no matter your method, is for no-boot systems where we are recovering incrementally.

This was the first version I downloaded to see if it had the skip file. I thought by deleting this file the machine will overwrite all firmware files even if they are the same versions?

Thanks, kjg. I always use the full version. I may have to try the recovery firmware if I have tried all my options.Comment

Re: m3550idn firmware issue
You didn't say what happens when you boot the machine after trying to load FW but that might help identify other related factors. There is a known issue around data in the device but it results in System Errors (CF245, CF246, CF247, CF345)
'When the database inside the JFFS2 (Note1) is destroyed, it might cause the issue such as the system error or the machine lock-up.
In that case, this issue could be resolved by replacing the PWB only. However, the service software is released that initializes the destroyed database to recover the PWB.'
Controller Board would be a good bet I'd say."Being ignorant is not so much a shame, as being unwilling to learn" - Benjamin Franklin
