CS 300ci - Black Lines at edges

    Hi,

I have a used CS 300ci that I had picked up used about a year ago. It does not get a ton of use. It was printing very nicely when I got it. It has probably printed about 2000 pages (almost all B&W) since I received it.

It is admittedly a little overdue for its first Maintenance Kit (Black) based on page counts.

Recently I started getting lines just at the edges of the paper. I am attaching a picture. The arrow I drew denotes the direction of print.

Wondering if anyone knows if there is something I can clean to improve this as a short term solution or if I need to move forward now with the maintenance kit.

    Thanks.

The black developing unit would probably resolve this issue. Here's the thing though. This machine is obsolete, meaning that you won't be able to get parts much longer. You may not be able to get the black developing unit.

If you're a gambling man, you might want to buy that Maintenance Kit A while it can still be bought.
If you're not a gambling man, you might want to spend your money on another machine.

It's really up to you. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

BC is dead on and here is the main issue. That is basically gen 2 Kyo color after the *ugh* Voyager series. It did NOT have a system to STOP driving color while in BW use as later gens did.

This means that the Color Drums and more importantly DV's are always driven and would overcharge unused colors.
They all wear equally with the BW count, there is no sep. color counter on these.
They suffered from frequent HVT failures
The transfer belt material was changed and early machines, esp. 250/300 would have trouble keeping TX belt clean.

Probably one of the worst 'wholly Kyo' color MFP's ever....

Pull the Drums, at least one of the drums will have this pattern of foreign matter on it. Carefully clean that drum, or drums, and you will be good for the near term. I seem to recall something about the Transfer Belt causing this, especially in low volume (or stored) units. Replace Transfer Belt and keep a drum or two on hand; as mentioned, this is an old model so an upgrade would be best.
